First Time Building Computer

Thread Starter
Hi, this is my first time building a computer and I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions/tips for my build.

I plan on using

Corsair Carbide 500R
H100 Cooling
Intel i5 2500K CPU
Asus P8Z68 Motherboard
2x MSI 460 GTX Hawk
Corsair TX750W PSU
Mushkin 8GB 1333MHz ram
Crucial M4 SSD 64GB
WD Caviar Black 1TB

I didn't really plan on using water cooling but considering a coolermaster hyper 212+ is $30 and 2 120mm fans are $40, I thought I mind as well get an H100 for $100.

If you're gaming, you could go with a p67 chipset mobo like the asrock p67 extreme gen3 and throw the extra cash at a better GPU

watercooling is a good decision if you're going to OC the 2500k (why wouldn't you )

Oh sorry I meant i was gonna SLI two 460gtx since it was a cheaper and better alternative to the 580.

For the H100 is the installation easy?
I hear a lot of stories about how water cooling is extremely difficult to set up and sometimes water leaks or something like that? :l
wouldn't want water dripping all over my parts D:

It's not really a better alternative bro because once you get two gtx 460's you can't really upgrade the graphics card and they are already old technology. Sure it will cost you much less but if you were to buy a gtx 570 or gtx 580 by the time you REALLY need another you could buy one for much less than what they go for now. Just my two cents

I would get a gtx 570 which isn't much more then two gtx 460's and down the road when the cards are cheap you can get another.

The h100 won't be hard to install at all but it is pretty expensive, if you aren't planning on heavy overclocking it isn't really necessary, h80 would suffice. Those hydro series units are pretty much leak/fool proof.

im currently building my first full pc aswell... installing with H80 and it was the easiest thing ever mate, no more playing around with stupid clips and pressing down hard worrying about breaking the board 5 minute job and its done... Granted i havent finished this build yet but that part was easy...

But i agree with the above go p67... =]

As a first time builder, you should *really* shy away from an SLI/X-Fire build, as you'll be running into compatibility issues, driver issues, and microstuttering. For experienced users, it's par for the course, but can be really frustrating to deal with if you're new to building. Go with the best single card you can afford.

Thanks guys.
I'm kind of undecided now on the case I should get
I really like the aesthetics of the NZXT Phantom's case but I'm afraid it won't have sufficient airflow seeing as how there are no front fans. Would the H100 fit in the NZXT?
The airflow in the carbide 500R looks good but I would need to buy an H100

Not sure about airflow but if your using a h80/h100 i don't think it would matter because it would be drawing in air regardless through where you mount the rad. IF anything your gpu temps would be high if theres no front fans.

Why do you say you would NEED to buy the h100? You could cool that case with any cooler... its up to you

hyper 212+ comes with one fan already and in my case I notice maybe 1-2C tempature difference with both running in pwm mode.

I would suggest you get a h80 to save some money and buy a gtx 570 to avoid sli with older cards.

Get the most single powerful gpu, you can afford.

This. I found that games tend to get glitchy when multi-gpus are involved. Flashing to black during BC2, and no improvement in other games.
