This test is pretty dumb, the iPhone weighs more = more mass.
And you know the saying: "The bigger they are, the harder they fall"

Actually, I don't own a single apple product besides a mac pro 15 and I can tell you, customer satisfaction is one of Apple's number 1 priorities, in fact, I was so happy with apples customer support, that I believe they are the number tech company in the world in terms of customer satisfaction, which they are BTW...

I've had my OG Incredible since launch day (late April 2010) running around without a case and it still looks brand new. The secret is to treat your phone right.

I dont understand needing to have a case to protect my phones. I droppped my Droid X 3 stories onto the sidewalk and it didnt even have a scratch on the screen, just some markings on the back of it. Having to buy a case defeats the purpose of having a good looking phone.

Sometimes the case makes the phone look better to the owner?

example:
iPhone 4S alone.. meh
iPhone 4S with e13ctron S4V..now there we go

I'm waiting for an actual, comprehensive comparison of these two phones. Just out of curiosity, I already bought a 4s and think it's perfect for me.

In the case of these one off cases of survival it just comes down to what piece of the phone impacted the surface and the compliance of the surface it impacted. In the real world where anything can happen you can only count on chance. If your phone is mostly made out of plastic then it's more likely that the plastic will be impacted. Plastic being a lot more compliant than metal will dampen the energy as it is transferred to other components. Depending on how the components are attached, whether it be glue or screws, you will see some more dampening. Also note that the strength of glass depends on the amount and size of microscopic imperfections/fissures existing in its structure. So that can be a variable attributed by manufacturing variances.

And obviously for many owners they are not.
If you make a choice to not use a case or not buy a phone that can survive drops than you have to live with the consequences. Even though there is no "dropability" specification advertised by the manufacturer, I think any consumer can tell you that glass is more fragile than plastic.
