[IHS] iPhone 4s costs $188 to manufacture - Page 3

What exactly does "manufacture cost" include? There seems to be a lot of things missing and mainly just materials.

Thought I'd quote you to say grats on your 333rd post and 3 rep

It would be nice to think that manufacturers would go the way of Amazon and completely subsidize pricing based off of the money they make from apps/books/cell service but in reality everyone is out to make money....whatcha gonna do.

These prices work like taxes...the more money you make the more money the gov't takes from you. The more money you want to spend on Apple the more money they take from you.

This topic would be indefinitely better if we have the cost to produce some popular android phone as well.
Does anybody have any insight on that ?

ahh here we go again, all your little andriod phones cost just as little to produce, every products costs are very low because it only counts the cost of parts, not R&D, Testing, advertising etc.. etc..

No actually everyone price gouges.

~$280 to make a Xoom and it was priced around $600 subsidized when it came out. That's why I mentioned Amazon doing it right by not overcharging and instead depending on their complimentary products to make a profit off of the Kindles.

Apple has the same infrastructure as Amazon so there is no reason why they cannot do the same thing as Amazon with their pricing. However, Motorola, Samsung and HTC don't have books/apps to subsidize their pricing so I can understand if they try and make a profit off of their products.

The only difference to me from Apple vs any other android device is the fact that their price differences are huge when only adding NAND memory. Android traditionally has one memory capacity and a microSD slot.

Apple could be a lot more competitively priced and sell a lot more but they don't have to...hell, why would they. They can barely keep up with the supply and demand as it is.

Of course that's overpriced. No idea why you'd buy the phone without the contract, they price them like that for the express purpose of getting you to sign up. That's why cheaper phones are also still priced at like $400 without a contract as well.. It's actually cheaper to buy a phone with a contract and then cancel the contract and keep the phone.
