Basics of folding.

Thread Starter
I under stand the basics of folding, and I read the guide, I am just a noob, and do not really understand all that well, I will be using the computer in my sig to fold. What do I need to do, I am currently gpu folding, but I was wondering if I can fold on my cpu, and gpu as well. Will I be of any help to the team? I will be folding from 10pm to 2pm 5 days a week.

I'm pretty sure the graphics card nets you more PPD than the quad does. If you fold on both, your GPU PPD goes down a bit but your average will be higher.

The general saying is that any contribution is a good contribution. The point system is mostly there for those that are competitive and those who want to compare similar system performance. You'll see a lot of - I have x hardware clocked at y and my PPD is z, is this right, or should it be higher.

If you have a desire to fold, and don't mind your electricity bill bumping up a bit (not a huge amount unless you are on a budget where you have to watch every penny), do so! The general rule is just what intelfan said - folding on both GPU and CPU should give you an overall points per day (PPD) boost, at the expense of SMP points because of the graphics card needing a core to do its thang.

E: One thing to watch out for with the limited time frame on the smp (CPU) folding is the deadline associated with the work unit. Make sure you set up HFM as described in zodac's guide so you can see when the deadline is, and the estimated time to reach it. Last note, the first 10 smp units you fold will look like they suck horribly, but so long as you set up with a passkey, the 11th one will reflect bonus points that significantly bump up the point value. But, again, in the long run, a work unit complete is better than one left undone, no matter how many points it's worth.

Prerequisites:

1) Make sure the account is an Administrator.

2) Request a folding passkey from Stanford from here. This is necessary for WU bonuses:
My memory is a little spotty, but I think my first 10 WUs were about 700 a piece, give or take, my current WUs are worth anywhere from 2.3k to 5k.. same WUs, but with a huge bonus.

Ok so I have been folding . Right now I'm 447 out of 1500. I started about a week ago and have never seen any points or anything like that. I have been to extreme and can't find my name or any kinda points.

Can you make your own thread in this section, as to not hijack this one, please?
In your own topic, include the information you posted here, as well as a link to the guide that you followed. That will help us to determine our approach to a solution.

Have you totally completed one work unit? Are you folding under Cape_Cod, and have team 37726 set in your clients?

So basically, I should just continue to fold with a gpu. I also have a couple of p4 computers and some parts to make about 3 c2d computers, is it worth it to shove thees e in the basement and let them fold?
