I5 2500k oc to 4.3 build and temp question

Hello Guys,

I am not new to building systems, but pretty new to overclocking and this forum. Your help would be much appreciated. I just finished this build:

I5 2500k
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus
GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 LGA 1155 Z68
MSI N560GTX-TI Twin Frozr II
Crucial 8GB DDR3-1333 (PC3-10666) CL9
700W PSU

I was able to easily overclock the I5 to 4.3 just by changing the CPU clock ration to 43. If I go pass the 4.3 bios just doesn't post it restarts and sets it back to 3.3. I guess there is a protection build in. If I change any memory setting at all it does the same thing. I watched couple tutorials on how to reach 4.5 with the same MB, however it didn't work. I guess I can live with 4.3 but the problem is temperature. It idles in 34-37 but reaches 69-72 with Prime95 after 5 minutes of use. I have two fans 120 mm on my Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus and from what i read the temperatures should be significantly lower. I tried to reapply the thermal paste, because i thought I have too much, but that didn't do any dramatic change. Case has 3 120mm fans. Intake from the front and the side, output from the back. PSU is in the bottom and is taking air from the bottom of the case.

Can I live with 69-72 temperatures in Prime95? The system was primarily designed for BF3 . Does gaming overloads the CPU similarly to stress software? I thank you very much for your time and help with this.

check the volts that you are putting out on the CPU, thats really hot, I have the same cooler and cpu and I max out at 61C. fill out your sig in your profile if you really want help though.

What's your Vcore under load?

Also try setting your Vcore to 1.35V and a multi of 45X

I have my 2500K @ 4.8ghz 1.375v and my highest temps in Prime95 are usually around 72 C. When I played the BF3 Beta my temps never exceeded 70 C. I'd say those temperatures are usable, but slightly higher for that cooler and overclock.

Thank you. Do I have to change the memory settings with CPU overclocking. Can I leave memory settings on Auto? Just play with CPU's Vcore?

Can an incorrect Vcore voltage be responsible for higer temp?

You can run your chip at max clocks while having your memory at 1333MHz. The two are unlinked on SB

so here is the action plan in order to drop the temp

1. Play with the Vcore
2. apply a better thermal paste?

3. quit overcloking and hope that BF3 does not kill my system ?

can an incorrect Vcore setting cause the higher tempreture?

played with the Vcore last night. I set it to 1.26V in bios at 4.5. Just ran prime with blend for 8 hours with tempretures 62-68 not reaching 70. Smart fan turned off. I think this is acceptable. what do you think?
