[GIZ] iPhone vs Android: Who Aged Better? - Page 19

Responding to a whole bunch of points, in no particular order:

1 - Customization isn't that much better on Android than on iOS. If you want to compare them when stock then sure, I guess. But who, on this site, doesn't know how to root/jailbreak? If you choose not to then that's your loss. There's very little difference between a rooted Android and a jailbroken iOS, at least in terms of what can be done on them. Either way you can change icons, add widgets, change the launcher layout, etc.

2 - What, exactly, can you do on one platform that you can't do on the other? If there isn't an app for what you want to do then maybe you should consider programming it yourself and making some money out of the idea instead of whining about it on the internet.

3 - Whoever said that Apple only made minor upgrades each year has a very short attention span. Maybe 4->4S was relatively minor, but all the other upgrades before it were huge. The first iPhone had no app store, no customization, no nothing - just 4 gigs of space to put music and a non-standard 2.5mm headphone jack. Android phones made similar improvements too - the G1 isn't even comparable to an SGS-II for example.

4 - iOS stole from Android, and Android stole from iOS. When one side does something right (or wrong), the other one will be influenced by it. It's unavoidable. It's not like the engineers and developers are sitting in a locked room where they will never see the competition's product and get ideas from it. Imagine a car manufacturer putting 6 wheels on their cars instead of 4, just so that they wouldn't be copying others.

5 - This is seriously a stupid argument. Whoever bought an Android is going to say Android is better, whoever bought an iPhone is going to say that iPhones are better. Either way you've got a bunch of people trying to justify their own purchase so that they can feel like they bought the "better" one. And I'm sorry, but a lot of the differences being brought up are pretty dumb. "Android is better because the icons are smaller". Really?

All Lies, obviously one is better than the other. Why else would people get so fired up over these threads.

The iPhone lineup lachen.gif

I remember when I had my G1 I was using a 3g around that time as well and thought it was so much better (the iPhone). Then around the time of cupcake I think it was that I just got stuck to my G1, I would only used my iPhone at nights sometimes to play a game or two.

I tend to agree. Android is better for me because I like it better.

I have to disagree, the 4S is the most significant upgrade yet. Externally, it's as if nothing changed, internally, it's as if everything did.

Why does significant hardware upgrades matter as much if the entire UI is and has been built upon being smooth. Is the whole iOS experience even more smooth?

I've used both, can barely tell the difference, 4S feels a bit snappier. Yes I know the 4S is much more powerful, but I have yet to notice because nothing has taken advantage of it.

Yes, it is. See below:

I can't say I've used the iPhone 4 (although I do have an iTouch 4) but the iPhone 4S shines when it comes to multi-tasking. For example, listening to a YouTube video while flicking through Safari, etc., albeit I'm comparing it to an iPhone 3GS but the 4 isn't that much faster than it.

Oyes. That's sooo true.

I consider myself neutral because my Android thingie was free, and I don't even pay a data plan wink.gif

But I think Android aged better than iPhone, especially on the outside.

The OS itself was already ages better in the times of Android 1.5 (when it implemented multitasking), and has done nothing but increase over time, with the second most relevant improvement on 2.2, where the vast majority of phones saw their performance nearly doubled without barely any compromise in battery life.

Outside wise... Well, Androids were terribly fugly in the beginning, which is I believe what made the iPhone sell so well. HTC contributed to that, their phones are AWFULLY HORRIBLE to say the least.

On the other side, Motorolas and the Google Nexus series are sooo beautiful.

I love those moments when...

-Oh look man, I just got an iPhone!
-Oh cool, how's it?
-Um, fine. Will have to jailbreak it one of this days.
-*le brain loading...* Um... Ah! Lol, seriously you can only do this? *points at the free apps on the appstore*
-Um yes, what do you mean?
-Look at this. *points Market*
-WHOA. Angry Birds Rio is free on the droid?!
-Yeah man. And so are lots of other stuff you've paid for confused.gif
-Omg. Must jailbreak this, either return it to the store!
*le next day*
-Man, just returned my iPhone.
-*le shocked face* Why?
-Got a Galaxy instead. Loving it every moment.
-Icwhatudidthar cool.gif

So far three buddies have done this. One of them is a die hard Apple fanboy who has an iMac, a PowerMac on the office, a MacBook Pro for the university and... oh well, had an iPhone 4.

He tried to convince me to get an iPhone, but failed repeatedly. Until he saw my android (even if it's a very basic one, Qualcomm MSM7227-based).

Guess he didn't even use an Android phone before deciding which one did he prefer confused.gif

Hit the nail on the head. Posts that say iPhone> (Insert random Android phone here) or vice versa should get infractions. ITS PERSONAL PREFERENCE!!! All you're going to do is spark a flamewar with that crap, they both make very capable Smartphones, leave it at that.
