ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 RMA Question

Thread Starter
Bought an Open Box ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 cuz the deal was just too good to pass up, and I was too broke and impatient to wait weeks til I could afford better.

In fact, something was wrong with the onboard video -- VGA out totally not working, whether I had it connected as the only monitor, or with another connected to either DVI or HDMI. Thought I could live with that, since I would eventually be getting a discrete card, and ASUS told me to contact them if I had further problems. Sounded like this board had already been RMA's once or even twice before by orig owner, so hopefully they will just send an actual new board -- so far no complaints, actually quite happy with the stated warranty policy even on this Open Box product.

So, few months later, finally got a GPU: Sapphire 5750, should be fine with my PSU, etc. and voila -- system does not power on with the card installed in PCIE#1, as if there is a short. Got an RMA # from ASUS and will be shipping back.

Now, though, wishing I had more # to have invested in a more recent AMD chipset. Though, for my proc, this 880G isn't terrible -- I have OC up to 4.1 on air (hyper+) and keeping things relatively cool with a 60mm fan ghetto'd over the mosfet, though still adjusting and should be ready to set up my PhenomMSRTweaker settings soon to go from idle to roaring on six cores -- works great for video editing.

Before I RMA the board though, I'd like to get ready for the next couple of weeks. No 2nd computer here, and can't afford to invest in what I'd really like, a modern sleek Gigabyte BD ready board.

Any suggestions for me to attempt meanwhile? I was thinking of trying a $75 board or so as a "rental", returning it when the RMA comes in, or would it be worth dropping a bit more, and then selling the M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 when I get it back from ASUS?

Hmm I`m rather happy with my 88TD

a) keep the 88TD if you`re happy with your 1090T and dont plan to upgrade to BD or piledriver(I think)(or go intel)

b) sell the 88TD when you get it back and get an am3+ or something if you want to get a BD or something amd in the future
Just my 2c
