I'm no apple fan, but I disagree. Steve is the guy who helped bring about lots of those changes. Your argument could be made for most scientific advances as well. If some Nobel Prize winning scientist never did his research somebody else eventually would have made that discovery. That doesn't change the fact that the scientist was the first one to do it.

The smartphone and portable mp3 player are two of the most revolutionary electronic devices ever and Steve pioneered both of them. I think the aluminum unibody laptops are also pretty revolutionary.

As much as I hate Apple these days, Steve Jobs was a visionary and deserves the respect that has been given him. The guy was never a great engineer or designer but he knew what people wanted and he knew how to make his products seem cool. As an aside, just watch the movie "Pirates of Silicon Valley" and you can get a decent idea about what Jobs was all about....

I don't understand why people are obsessing over this. Not to be rude guys, but the man was a CEO of Apple. He wasn't the second coming of jesus or anything. I nearly died laughing the other day after I went to the mall and walked passed the Apple store to see people bawling their eyes out and placing flowers in front of the store... Pathetic. Its not like you knew the man personally...

Lol really?

I was using Creative Zen mp3 players at LEAST 2-3 years before the ipod. And blackberries/windows phones have been around WAY longer than the iphone.

True. But both the iphone and the ipod set the bar for their respective class of products. Although I have not owned either of them...

...what does that even mean? yes, in 2007 the iphone came out, very good.
it seems like apple has to be the first one to get to products and do it right to make other manufacturers actually give a crap and make something competetive. Jobs wasnt an engineer, but he knew how to take a product that was on the market already and mold it into something easy/fun to use, reliable and market it to peoples wants and needs perfectly. i own an iphone 4, and ive owned an ipod, ipad and macbook pro and i love all of them (dont flame me, i recently sold my macbook to get a lenovo thinkpad for school). i do miss the macbook though lol
