Ok, I'm going to share my take on this topic. I'm not going to post it all over the place in every Apple thread I see; I'm just going to cover this one time.

Steve Jobs was a visionary. He saw what the future could hold with PCs and computing devices and did everything he could to bring that vision to fruition. I do believe that he was a brilliant man, but only in that he saw the potential for the application of technology; not technology for the sake of itself.

That being said, Steve Jobs and Apple didn't invent anything. He was not a messiah, pioneer, or revolutionary. He took technology that existed and presented it in a way that Everyman could use simply and productively. It could be said that the devices Steve created would have been created anyway, and that would likely be accurate, but there is no way to tell.

I have a lot of respect for Steve Jobs and his legacy. I respect him for turning his passion into a career, and living his dream. I respect him for seeing a clear direction to take technology and having the conviction to never waiver from that direction.

I have no respect for Apple as a company and their hypocritical arrogance, however. Their concrete belief that they know what's better for me than I do is why I never have and never will own an Apple device. I believe that the reason Apple could never fully compete in the computing market is because they missed the one fundamental that most people require: choice.

I have absolutely no doubt that Jobs worked all the way up until his last breath; it wasn't his job, it was who he was. THAT, I have to respect.

Wow. They made the GUI? You mean the one they (and Microsoft) stole from Xerox? iPads, Macbooks, iMac, iPhones and iPods are not ideas, and not Apple's inventions. They're other people's ideas that Apple produced and marketed (see any number of Science Fiction novels/movies). Don't act like a child while calling other people children. I implore you.

Really?
It seems the only reason you people are hating on Steve Jobs (R.I.P) is because it's the cool thing to do.
Hah, what are you people even doing with your lives?
All you do is reminiscent about the good 'ole days when amd used to be king and all that junk no one cares about, then go play your games on a GTX 580, which is just money wasted, i'll be running BF3 and MW3, both on the specs that came with my MBP.
I'm using my MBP for school, and making music/DJing, hell Apple made that easier, try using programs like traktor on windows, lol and windows doesnt even have Logic Pro.

And nope, no one else would have come up with the iPhone, iPad, Macbooks and the other apple line up....if they had....they would have.
Steve Jobs and Apple did make peoples lives easier, they made it better, and they did revolutionize computing.
Give credit where credit is due, you people are children.

There are many people who invented things, but really didnt know how to use it, Apple, KNOWS how to use it, and actually make it affordable, and useable to people, thats genius.
Plus Apple, came up with a lot of unique ideas iPad, Macbooks, iMac, iPhones and iPods, hell they made the GUI, and they currently make the worlds most advanced operating system, OS X, heh, hows windows?....whoops, i'll wait for you to restart, you must have had another crash.

Hell, Apple made me better at using computers, i found this website through Apple, since i wanted to know more about computers, lol later i found out most of you people are snobby elitists, well whatever makes you feel better.

yeah you keep drinking that apple flavored koolaid.

According to extracts of Mr Isaacson's book, obtained by the Associated Press, Mr Jobs said: "I'm going to destroy Android, because it's a stolen product. I'm willing to go thermonuclear war on this."

He is also quoted as saying: "I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple's $40 billion [£25bn] in the bank, to right this wrong."

At that time, Google's chief executive, now chairman, Eric Schmidt also sat on the board of Apple.

However, relations began to sour when Google unveiled Android in November 2007, 10 months after the iPhone first appeared.

Patents blogger Florian Mueller, who has been following the court cases closely, said Apple would be conscious of its past, where other companies exploited some of its early ideas.

"If Apple doesn't want the iPhone and iPad to be marginalised the way it happened to the Macintosh at the hands of the Wintel duopoly, it has to use the full force of its intellectual property to fend off the commoditization threat that Android represents," he told BBC News.

Mr Mueller - who has previously undertaken consulting work commissioned by Microsoft - was also critical of Eric Schmidt's dual role at the time: "The fact that Eric Schmidt stayed on Apple's board while he was preparing an iOS clone was an inexcusable betrayal of Steve Jobs' trust."

Mr Schmidt resigned from the Apple board in August 2009. He was later quoted by Bloomberg as saying: "I was on the board until I couldn't stay on the board anymore."
Android is a iOS clone, just as Windows was a copy of the Macintosh. End of story.

When something becomes commoditized customer service suffers, cease to exist to be exact.

When a consumer buys a Windows PC from the store, who can he/she go to for help when something goes wrong? No one, you're left to fend for yourself. If I bought a Mac I could visit a local Apple store and have someone with a actual brain (instead of those brain dead people at Geek Squad) resolve my problems.

What? You do know that windows in a computer operating system. Not a computer. Macintosh is a computer brand. Seems you would be a little short on comparative facts. huh?

You cant fix your own problems, guess not? I can fix them for you!
