Help me spice this desk up [Sketchup]

Attached is a L-shaped desk I modeled 10 minutes after discovering Google Sketchup.

I'd like some help with it. So far It's designed to my exact dimensional specs suited to a corner of my room and to the material sizes I would use to construct it.

It's a wooden desk but it needs a little more. I'd like to keep the same basic design but it needs a bit more flair. Maybe lathed spindle legs and a few drawers, but not too much because I want maximum leg room.

Just a note, it's missing that edge in the corner because my room corner isn't perfect and my wall outlet is just there. So the leg-layout in the corner of the desk was intentional to suit the corner where I intend on placing the desk

Here are a few screens for a preview:

Mabe some holes for cable management and yo could prob remove those corner legs and just mount a bracket to the wall to support that section
that way you have more leg room

Yeah, I bought a prebuilt desk, the leg supports are in both front in back so it isnt possible for me to sit under the corner section at all. so no legs in the corners may be something to explore, or if you dont plan on using it as space for a setup then leave the legs and put a nice LCD tv in the corner smile.gif

If I were to ever become a serial killer i'd only release information about the whereabouts of the bodies in return for access to a computer with this program on it and with each subsequent body i'd demand models/extensive images of famous areas so that I could recreate them perfectly in Google Sketchup. I'd of course have killer telepathy and be able to help with models. Oh, and be much smarter than I really am.

Of course this isn't NCIS so back onto topic...

Ideas:
-Modding it for cable management
-Staining it
-Cutting parts of it out and applying clear acrylic to the area. Having some lighting underneath it would be cool. Putting your computer under the case and under that would be even cooler.(got the idea from someone elses build."

Add a second tier for your monitor and speakers. That's what I'm working on.

That's a beautiful idea, only thing, i'm not allowed to do built-ins. I already asked my mom. She has a good point though because I tend to rearrange my room quite a bit. Howeeverrrrrr..........

..............I mayyy mount my monitor on my wall (secretly) so all I'd need are the holes for cables. Well if you look closely, the legs are actually to the back end of the desk. Therefore more space there to put subwoofer/system/legs etc etc.

I need some technical advice too guys. Did i design the desk well in terms of support structure. The idea is that i distribute the load in an even way given the "no legs in the corner" rule with those 1X3" straps you se connecting each leg. I'm no woodworker but I just tried to use what little sense I had there

I may scrap that idea and design a desk around this:

I updated a few things in the design of the desk in terms of the JOINERY involved. Gonna post up some screens soon. If anyone wants I can send the sketchup doc.

I'll most likely be making the desk based on the model. My skills on Sketchup aren't great so any adjustments will be made at the time of the build.

Thanks for following. More to come soon....
