-Awesome piece of hardware, but bulky. It's not something I can really use anywhere but when I'm sitting or laying down. I'm 6'2" and can easily palm a basketball, but this thing still feels big in my hands, particularly when touching the screen. It gets heavy too.
-Graphics are incredible. Gameplay is also excellent.
-Touchpad on the back is purely a gimmick.
-3G is worthless. It's not so much the data limitation, but the service limitation. All you can really do is find who else is around and check scores online. Stuff you'd actually want to do is reserved for wi-fi.
- Single player games kind of bore me, so I'm hoping they can get some really baller online multiplayer content. With a killer app like COD3 (which this hardware could actually play), the vita could be sick. Of course they'd make it wi-fi only and kinda kill the fun. tongue.gif Still, for me, that's the white whale of this device.
- Touching on their marketing again, if they could sell games for $20 and release them online only, this thing would rule the world. Or maybe sell games in a Steam style sale every so often. I'll never buy Hotshots for retail, but put that thing up digitally for $20? I'd gobble up 3 or 4 games without thinking. And why? Because that's awesome value.
Sony has an opportunity here to really take control of this market, which is drastically changing and under a severe threat from smartphone gaming. Most casual players don't care too much about cross-platform pollination and pixels per mm. They care about fun games for less money that are conveniently obtainable, which is why smart phones are kicking ass. We'll see what Sony does.

Geez, I wish people will stop throwing the word gimmick arnd. People called the touchscreen on the DS a gimmick and the 2 screens as well. But they were well-implemented in most of the games and create a unique user experience to gameplay. So, if it contributes, how issit a gimmick? The Vita has a back touchscreen and so far I found it to add more gameplay elements, like Little Deviants, etc. So, may I ask Axon14, what makes you think the back touchpad is a gimmick?

Unlike the DS display, where you can see what you are doing, it is a non-aligned gimmick (it's a bit off the front display, at least in the ONE game that uses it with any amount of precision required). If you think the ONLY little deviants minigame that uses it is "well-implemented," then we don't have anything further to discuss.

Do I think it can be used well? Maybe. However, as it is, no good implementation has been done, yet.

what makes you think future games wont make good use of it (didn't you see the word etc.)? I hate people labelling innovations as gimmicks.

What didn't you read in my post? tongue.gif It's last edit was 8min before you posted, btw.

Should I say I hate people who don't read? thumb.gif

At any rate, it's not an innovation, just simply an equally useful DS display. Less, since it's on the back and doesn't have a display, made back to equal, since it has capacitive touch and not resistive touch (I refused to get a DS/3DS over this, lol... never had a resistive touchscreen that lasted) - and yes, I am aware the 3DS main display is only 3D, not touch.

Sounds like a tomato(e) vs. tomAAto situation to me. Unless Sony really comes through with something clever, I'm not sure what they can do beyond this (slightly NSFW):

I'm loving the current UI, at least more than any smartphone OS atm. It reminds me of WebOS except better, and WebOS was my favorite.

The rear touch pad has potential, and in Fifa I would say its pretty cool and useful. I also like what they are doing with it in LBP.

I think the rear touch pad is great in Fifa, taking shots, freekicks and penalties with is a great idea. The UI i still think is pretty average at best. Have to have the right wallpaper or the outlines of the icons look really nasty which kinda sucks. If you could change icon images that would be great

It has tons of room for improvement, but then all of them do. Just remember how bad PS3's OS was on launch compared to now.
