i7-2600k help overclocking cant figure it out

I am coming from a i5-760 quad(no ht) that was runnign 4ghz on the same h50 setup with 2 medium yateloon fans both exhausting out the rear.. (suicide run 1.4v@4.4ghz only maxed in the 80s) i had a antec superlanboy with only 2x120mm mounts this case has TEN.. so i have two in the front intakeing, one on top intaking, the two from radiator exhausting and one on side panel exhausting running at 1.35v and 4.5ghz im hitting 8something anything above im throttling... i took pictures of everything from the way the thermal paste looked before i tightned down the h50 (maybe i overtighten??? can that be??) to the cable managment (nothing blocking airflow..) i am still under my 30 day exhance gurantee so if this is a bad too hot chip i will do that but before i must test it extensively lol.. as of right now its 5 hours into prime95 4c/8hton but i was able to boot into windows andrun 3dmark11 @ 52x100 at 1.4something volts but if my idle temp is like.. 38-35-44-41 (one core is usually the 2nd n 3rd in realtemp 10+ hotter then the rest) sorry for the way this post is coming out without proper 1. 2. 3. questions but if have more fans the same cooler better case for airflow low vcore 1.336/1.344 in cpu-z if i have to reseat the block and wipe the artic silver 5 off and reapply using another method or not tightening down the screws as much or i dont know im lost becuase almost EVERYONE i see is getting 5ghz + on AIR blah...

This is extremely hard to read. You acknowledged that it's setup bad you could have fixed it. Well from what I gather it's just hotter than you want? Idle temps don't matter, one core is always going to be hotter. Put your H50 to intake, and then it will run cool air through the rad rather than air that's already been heated up inside the case.
People are getting 5GHz+ on air because they have good chips with awesome air coolers, better than an H50, and in some cases turn off HT so they have lower temps.
When you say you're hitting "8something" at 1.35v does that mean 80c+? If you're throttling with only 1.35v something isn't right with your H50, but I would first try turning it around.

I'm thinking that it could be your H50. There are high-end air coolers that will outperform the H50, and probably the H100 for that matter. If yours is faulty, that's even worse, and could be why you are getting such high temps.
Is there any way you could borrow a good air cooler to see how it works in comparison?

Dude your post just hurt my head. Proper punctuation please.

So your running a H50 getting temps in the 80s with a OC of 4.5 @ 1.35V.
That seems way high even under an H50. I have a 70 (albeit on a 2500k) and im loaded to 5.1 @ 1.464 and i dont top 78.

With SB there always seems to be one core running hotter than the others. At least mine does the same.

So do like you said and try to reset your block first. Try plugging your pump into a sysfan pin-out and the fans on the rad into the cpufan pin-out. That way your pump will always run full speed and not throttle as your system sees fit.

And go here for some other tips on OCing the SB.

Keep us up to date on your progress.

ive disabled any throttling from the fans in the bios will switching the fans to intake really drop the temps that much? could the heatsink be TOO tight?? too much paste? when my roommate gets back with the laptop i can upload some pictures of the build the way i applied the paste etc this is now and before with my i5

@ 4.3 with 1.337 in bios topping around 78 same cooler same fans (INTAKING)

@ 4.0 with 1.2v toppingi around 6something..

yes i do realize its a different processor and my old e6600 has a custom watercooling loop i put toether years ago with a mcp355 blackicetwo240mm etc im not a newb when it comes to this ive been paying with systems forever but today i seek advice from the higher ups cause i definatly feel like i know nothing (i really dont about sb and ive read alot lol..) so to help me figure out if its me and or my settings or the chip thats the culprit either way i might be exchanging this one in a week or so incase the hot temps caused any degradation.. my motherboard is a Asus P8P67-Pro B3 Rev 3.1 running hwinfo64 the temp doesnt past 31 which is what it shows in asus bios not sure if thats correct as my i5 motherboards temp would be jsut as hot as the proc itself.. basiclly what im trying to get it 5ghz+ or ill try another chip lol

Here it is with LinX, and IBT(didn't load my chip 100% every now and then for some reason):

Ambient temp was ~22*C.

Also, your using the old version of IBT which doesnt have the new AVX instruction set for Sandy Bridge. Here is the link to the new LinX and IBT. And use all available memory to properly stress your OC.

A better cooler doesn't help if 5GHz requires a ridiculous amount of Vcore.

I beg to differ. Your chip might not like it, but wouldn't you say a better cooler would help the most if it requires high vcore? If you need 1.525 to run 5ghz you're gonna need a beast cooler.

can anyone post THEIR application of artic silver i used a grain of rice in the center but it was pretty thick sort of tall glob will upload picture later i am going to take off the h50 clean it with alchohol make the fans intake instead of exhaust aswell as make my top fan intake into an exhaust so it sucks in air from the back thru the rad and then gets sucked out the top but i doubt it will be that much of a difference what i do think matters more is how to apply as5 on this cpu one of my cores is 12c+ over the other..
