can you hear/feel the pump working the only way I ever saw those kind of temps was using 1.62volts and that is on air going for 5.3Ghz !!
thermal paste will make a slight difference but i read a review and they compared themal paste to lipsick and toothpaste and it was within 5* and 10* with no paste so I got to say either your pump aint going or the cooler block is not mounted properly I had those kind of temps when I only had 2 pins connected with intel cooler I managed to install windows and a few programmes but relised when I tried to play gta4 that I had a problem just sb run so cool

dont know the exact rpm its supposed to be at but i have the pump plugged into the PWR-FAN 3 pin connector and in hwinfo it reads almost 1400 (around 1380-1390ish) and it was cooling my i5-760 (smaler case with only 2 fans) in the pictures in the beginging of the thread much cooler then this.. m stll convinced its either a: this chip or B: tommorow when i take off the block im gonna find half the cpu isnt cover in paste doubt its that i could have overtightended it becuase when i flipped the fans to intake i also unscrewed it a tad bit on each side and made sure it was still solid with no movement.. really low idle temps its around 75f in my house via the A.c thermostat..

I know for sure theirs nothing wrong with the h50.. its only a few months old and was working perfectly on my i5 the low idle temps mght not mean anything because it is a difference of like 50 degrees instead of my custom loop that doesnt go more then 15-20 difference idle/load so im just guessing tommorow im taking it for an exhcnage if after re-applying the as5 its still the same high temps or is that not my problem? i hope it is lol..

took more pictures havent been able to upload them added another 120mm fan on top as exhaust and took off h50 cleaned as5 reapplyied in the middle top to bottom same thickness as last time put duct tape on the mounting bracketk so i dont have to slide it under and up causing air bubbles making sure once i placed the h50 down on the thermal paste it wasnt moving at all only squishing tightended it all up and same thing high 80s could it just be this is a hot chip?

First of all, when using AS5 you cannot use the rice-grain method. AS5 is too thick and won't spread correctly using that method.

Secondly, that rice grain was to small.

Thirdly, the H50 is not a top notch cooler. Also, if using IBT/AVX and Win7/SP1 you will be getting very high temps with Sandybridge. Instead, as others said, use Prime95 Blend. You will get lower temps and real stability testing.

Please use more AS5 and spread it out on the IHS yourself. Use a credit card or your finger, using a plastic bag on it or something.

well i decided i was going to exchange the cpu today and try my luck been reading thru the list of binned 2600k's but as everyone says it should be luck of the draw with my luck and this chip not wantnig to stabilize anwhere past 4.8ghz i feel its a dud.. so what to do? throw some extra vcore at it and watch it burn! lol.. seriously tho i did reapply the as5 will uplaod a picture | <-- like that from top to bottom around the same thickness as before and why not fft instead of blend??

I believe it throttles at 98c or 99c not sure either way its way to hot but since ive always been paraniod in the past about messing up a chip with heat i wanted to see what happened obviously nothing now but this chip is probably degraded already??
