Buddy Scored 800$ 2600k Comp

So I absolutely have to share this with the forum. The other day I saw the following build up for sale. It was a "research" computer that a professor no longer needed. So he put it up for sale for 850$. I told a buddy of mine who didn't have a computer of any kind and was looking to buy.

Quote:
ASUS P8P67-M mATX P67 Motherboard
16 GB Corsair XMS3 Memory
Intel Core i7 2600K Quad Core Unlocked Hyperthreading Processor
Antec Truepower New 650W Modular Power Supply
Samsung SH-B123L 12X BD-ROM & DVD Burner Combo
ASUS GeForce GTX 560 Ti DirectCU II Fermi 830MHZ Video Card
NZXT VULC-001BK Vulcan Gaming Enthusiast MicroATX Computer Case (has a handle for carrying to lan parties)
2 TB Seagate hard drive.
Asus Wireless network card.
Anyway long story short, we showed up at the right time before other people who were interested and he actually only took 800$ because he had offered it to other people for that much.

I estimate the parts to be worth just over 1100$ new, before tax which would have been 13% (150~$). But being a professor he probably had it subsidized by the university. I assume thats why he would have let it go for such a killer price, either that or he just didn't know how little these parts have devalued since then. Or he was just being nice.

So my buddy just has to get a nice mechanical keyboard, proper gaming mouse/pad, and an actual monitor (he is now using his plasma). As you can imagine he was pretty happy lol.

Nice score.

I'd feel way too guilty to buy something like that for so cheap.

I was with him when he was talking to the proff in his office. I was thinking to myself "man there has to be something wrong." When my friend offered him 850 and the guy gave back 50 because he had offered other people 800. I just couldn't believe it.

I assume he was either just being a REALLY nice guy, or he REALLY didn't know the value of the components. I think it was subsidized by the university though so he probably didn't pay much for it in the first place.
