On topic: OP, if you can't SLI, I would recommend getting a GTX 580. You're not going to get the best price/performance, but you will get the best performance, and that card is as future-proof as a single-gpu card gets these days.

I would also recommend getting a 3GB card that is built for overclocking (see sig), especially if you like high gfx settings and lots of anti-aliasing. And it's a good bet that more vram = more future-proof.

back on topic:

Another thing to consider is the 580 does have more Vram than the 570 and while I was playing the battlefield 3 beta I was monitoring my Vram usage and was easily using between 1300-1400 MB of Vram just on high settings with no deferred AA and High post AA. So if you are running a 570 that could choke up alittle bit and having slightly more Vram might help out based on what I saw while playing the beta.

Oh Christ, not this again...

OK, last time im gonna do this, afterwards, im done correcting people

As someone who has always believed AA is more overrated then Miley Cyrus, and thus, never uses it, im not concerned. I didnt' see my VRAM getting maxed on beta according to my GPU gadget either.

And yes, these screenshots were at time of playing game on Metro outside

So, FOR SOME OF US, 1.5gig of VRAM will not be an issue. Stop touting this bad info around like its a written in stone

Absolutely. I've had 3 GTX 570s die on me. And even the recent one (best overclocker) was not fast enough for me. Wish I had gotten the 580 to begin with. I'd want one even more so if I was stuck with that awful HD edition cooler and no overclocking.

Above guy, you're probably the only person that still games without AA. I was against it for the longest time, then I bought an X1900xt. That thing chewed up AA. Ever since then I've ran it, and my eyes bleed when its off.

BF3 ran fine for me with 1.28GB of vram.

A single card wouldn't have gotten me the frame rates I wanted anyways, and at 900 core they're pretty much dead even with 580 SLI at stock.

Still would rather have 580s, but like JFAMD said... I want a pony, but we don't always get what we want.

you need to calm down and not take so much offense to what I am saying ... sheesh. I am not talking as in a fact or anything of the sense.. I am stating what my GPU was using as far as Vram on higher settings (you were running lower than I was with have the AF and NO AA.). But the FACT IS that I WAS using upwards of 1400MB of Vram, so if someone were to want all that extra stuff like full AF and some AA they will need that extra Vram UNLESS they have changed it significantly from the beta. So stop getting your panties in a bunch and accuse me of trying to do anything that im not... im stating that IF someone wants AA and AF they will more than likely be needing the extra Vram if playing at 1080P. And YES you did not have your Vram getting maxed out because you were running lower than the auto high settings but for someone running the extra things it will do more to the Vram. So just because you had a different experience because YOU are ok without the extra eye candy does not mean other people are the same way.

Seriously you need to get off of your high horse... and if you have such a problem with "correcting" people (even though there was nothing to correct) then why dont you just not do it?

If budget factors at all into the equation I'd stick with 570's or 6970's. They offer 95% the performance at a substantial cost savings. If, like me, budget is of no concern and you want the current fastest single-gpu card made then go for the 580. It is a beast!

I think everywhere I have read the 570 is about 87-90 percent the performance of the 580. If it were 95 percent I dont think anyone would be buying a 580.
