U2311h Eyefinity triple monitor stand

Thread Starter
I've looked and looked but have not found something that i feel is worth spending 300-400 dollars on, i've looked at the XFX Tristand it looks flimsy compared to ergotron and looks idk too "gamer" but in a bad way, just not my style, i like the look of the ergotron stands but their triple mount LX only fits up to 21" it says (i have a glass desk so the single arms are out of the question). the only other stand ive found thats in that price range is the ergotech, but the base on that thing kinda is off putting, i know it may seem nit picky but i want it to look right as well as function. has anyone found anyother solutions (dont really want to do a DIY) mine are on books atm and makes my office look messy, even if its not a 'triple monitor stand' let me hear/see some peoples solutions.

TIA

Could you post a picture of your setup?

If you desk is up against a wall, you could buy some wall-mounted single monitor stands and have them arranged like that. Had my desk been against a wall, I would have done that a very long time ago.

Also, if you look at different single montor stands some of them have a very large clamp surface area so there shouldn't be much of an issue clamping that even on a glass desk.

Sold my XFX Tri-Stand as the base was way too big and it saved no space (stupid stealth bomber looking thing was huge) But I am getting the ergotech one which is the exact same just with a different flat base.

DIY is not THAT bad as long as you keep it simple. Also depending on the monitors you are getting the stands that come with monitors can be already quite adequate for the Eyefinity.

kuvarid.JPG

Here upper two are 21.5'' screen bolted to the wall with regular 13$ wall mounts. If you take your time measuring and take care to install them so they are vertical it's kinda ok.

The bottom ones are DELL U2311H screen with the stands they came with. Very good stands on these monitors for very reasonable price overall.

So if your budget is already 400$ for the stand I would suggest taking a look at these DELL U2311H monitors (which you already have as far as I understand) - they are going for roughly a 200$ / unit so for the price of your planned stand you would get already two of these. Hell, you could get two of these extra and do 5x1 Portrait eyefinity if you are already getting three monitors anyway.

If you just need to get them stand higher than their own stands allow perhaps you could get a small shelf on the table under them. That way they all are based on same level and you dont need stanks of books under each one.

Edit: I should add that you probably want to have upper edge of monitor at your eye level. This can be indeed issue with U2311H if you are using them in landscape mode. About 10-15 cm high shelf should take care of that though and you can store stuff under it if you want to as added benefit. In portrait mode the upper edge is for me about 3-5 cm above my eye level. It's somewhat straining to work if you have to look above your eye level for long, so upper monitors are only for the additional info I'm not working with, MSN, temps, some figures I need to glance at from time to time when writing stuff, etc.

For productive stuff I find portrait mode better than landscape in general - depending ofc what that productive stuff is. Writing (programs, reports etc) - it's portrait for media consumption, excel sheets, etc it's landscape. Problems with 3x1 Landscape is that you would need to "look at the side" often if you are working on all three screens. Portrait is more natural in that regard as you can get away with just moving your eyes and dont need to move your head to look at "side" monitors.

appreciate all the feedback im getting, sadly wall mounting is out of the question too, apartments suck lol....and DIY is tempting but id just rather buy something than make a big project out of it, that and i have little to no tools.

EDIT: and im at work right now but i will post a pic tomorrow

might check this out http://www.outletpc.com/monitor-mounts-3-screen-mounts.html
Or this is the one I was considering due to the mounting and the ability to adjust the monitors
http://www.provantage.com/siig-ce-mt0r12-s1~7SII20UX.htm

after re-reading the OP you could use a small piece of wood or plexi glass 1/8th x 4" a little longer then the base mount on top and bottom to spread out the pressure on the glass top desk for single arm mounting.

Thanks for all your help guys, but assuming it will fit on my monitor ledge that the desk came with i might be going ergotech, since it has everything im looking for, the only downside to it is the base is really ugly but with some creative thinking i might be able to make it look good with my modern/minimalist theme i have in my office

EDIT: now i gotta figure out how im going to hide or minimalize my millions of cables with a glass desk (dont go clear glass for desks cant hide anything frown.gif )

just found this planar triple monitor stand that holds up to 24" monitors doesnt say how deep the base is, but it looks significantly smaller than the ergotech, might be able to fit on my monitor shelf. anyone use this stand?
