SR3 machines will be 60-70% more powerful than SR2, there's no upgrades on earth you could do to your SR2 that would even come close to that.
If you already have an SR2 system, then you've got the case, the PSUs, the RAM, drives, water cooling loops and video cards all ready to go.
Sell the SR2 mobo and the Xeons, can probably still get upwards of $1k for the X5680/90 chips and $300+ for the board. Take that $2,300 and use it towards turning your SR2 into an SR3...the upgrade will only end up costing you $1,500.
Computing power-wise, that $1,500 upgrade would be like having 2 i7 2600k machines @ 4.5GHz connected to your SR2 motherboard. It's simply impossible to beat that performance per dollar!
Once you've invested in an HPTX setup with water cooling, case, PSU, etc., you're a made man.Edited by kweechy - 10/21/11 at 6:42pm
