When you do an overclock run the kombuster software and check for crashes and artifacting. If it crashes bump up the voltage a little.
my problem when i do this is ill set all the clocks, run Kom, then run another benchie like Fur and it will work beautifully, then when i put on an actual GAME, IMMEDIATELY crashes when a decent amount of graphic memory is being used

any ideas?

earwig, is that with the 570 in your sig rig?

570s and 580s throttle down their power draw when running kombustor or furmark, so those programs aren't useful for stress testing anymore. This is a result of OCP (overcurrent protection), which nvidia implemented in order to keep people from burning out their cards on stress testing applications.

(One way to know that OCP is working is if you watch the fps graph in Afterburner when running kombustor/furmark. It'll oscillate up and down.)

Try using a game benchmark or something like 3dmark11 or Unigine Heaven instead.
