Thread Starter
hello everyone,

Im looking to upgrade my computer below in order to play some of the new titles that are coming out.

my question is: which upgrades should I make with a $300 budget? (tight I know but im a broke college student who wants to game haha)

by the way, i recently bought 2x8gbs of ddr3 ram for 39 each, so im going to need a new mobo of course

thanks a lot.

Your current system is actually a perfectly functional gaming system IMO. The GTS250, while nothing special by todays standards, is still very powerful in the grand scheme of things, and a tri-core Athlon II is an ideal CPU configuration to match that GPU. If you had just thrown some more memory at that current rig, I suspect it would play most games reasonably well, just have to adjust settings to get some decent FPS/quality balance.

That said, since you have already purchased some DDR3 and are probably hankerin to use it...

The absolute largest step up in performance you can get out of the gate in that price range would be to get an i3-1200 ($115 on newegg now), a cheap micro ATX board (something like this), and a 550Ti or HD6790.

thanks for the recommendation. I think that may work out for me. So do you think an i3 cpu would best suit my needs?

Yes an I3 built with a decent Mobo will do that job
Try to invest in a z68 or p67 mobo to be future prof if u ever want to get Ivy bridge in the next 2-3 years
when most game finaly start using 4cores AVG
