First of all it is technically my wife's build, but she may not have too much of an opinion and I will be the one putting it together.

And before someone mentions Silverstone as another option they are fairly expensive compared to the following 4 options.

Also, what will be going in said case will be the following:

2600K Core i7 (+ maybe an aftermarket cooler)
128GB Crucial M4 SSD + 2x1TB F3 Drives in RAID 0, & one 2TB F4
16GB of RAM
4870 2GB Eyefinity Graphics card
Multimedia Reader
Blu Ray Drive
ASUS Xonar Essence ST
Fan Controller?

Four options I found to be pretty good:

Fractal Design Arc Midi - $109
Lian Li PC9f - $139
Corsair Obsidian 650D - $189
Corsair White 600T - $145 AMIR

Question: Is your wife an extreme gamer/computer user at all? Otherwise, those specs seems really overkill. I mean, what benefit do you get with 2 1TB drives in RAID0 that you won't get with the SSD?

Also, in my experience, you best let the ball and chain pick the case. Then they feel like they're part of the project, and since it will be at their desk all day, they'll be happier with it.

650D if you dont mind the extra cash.

600T is also a good choice.

I admit I will be a little jealous of her setup, but that will change with IvyBridge and new GPU's next year.

However, to get more to your questions she is a graphic designer and product developer so naturally she uses a lot of design programs with large file sizes and switches between them on the fly. Thus, the SSD will be for things like say Adobe CS5, etc. and the RAID 0 will be for those large file sizes and other programs less apt to take advantage of the SSD and CPU. Also, the 2TB F4 is serving as a backup drive to the RAID. Sort of like my sig.

And yes she does do some gaming here and there (not WoW, but things like strategy and FPS).

As far as letting the "ball and chain" pick what she wants is all fine and good, but if I know her (and I do) she will pick two cases out of the 4 and say different aspects of either she likes, but it is up to me as I will be the one working with the case. So, then I have to be left with the decision.

See, I don't think I could go wrong with any of these cases. They are all good.

I of course meant "ball and chain" in the best possible way tongue.gif

My concern with the RAID0 setup is the potential for data lose. Why not go with RAID1? You get the same double read speed, and though the write speed suffers some, it's really nothing to scoff at with these super-sized drives.

600T, its the best all rounder case

pretty good airflow (great airflow with the 4X120mm fans side panel), can be made to be quiet, decent expandability and modding options (650D's a better choice for that tho), lookes good, plenty of room and is cheaper than the 650D.

only go with the Lian li or Fractal if you end up being budget constrained

I voted for the Arc Midi. Probably the more aesthetically pleasing case to a woman out of those four.

Ball and Chain is appropriate ;p

Well for one I already have all the drives. And the backup drive is being manually backed up to (or so is the plan). Plus eventually I will have a server running that will tentatively have 6TB + an SSD to backup to. Plus the F3 drives in RAID 0 def. give a performance gain. But, in all reality it may not matter as much unless you are encoding, etc. as game loading only matters in single player really.

See, I think they are all nice. But, if it was my case I would be that guy to throw a Silverstone in as I am intrigued in the airflow model. But, it is expensive and I don't know enough about it.

She currently is using an Antec P180 and seems to like it. I call it the fridge. She liked the looks of both the Corsair 800D (I think that is the full size tower model) and the NZXT Phantom until she saw them in person as they were way to big for her taste. If it is bigger than the P180 she most likely wouldn't go for it. But, at least I know by the pictures of the White Phantom and Corsair of some aesthetics she likes. She thinks my Lian Li is pretty as well. So these cases are all ones I picked with that in mind. Although I think the 650D may be too big.

It was one of the ones I considered and am currently considering another case myself. One thing I found annoying was the backplate hole in my current case as they don't accommodate Sandy Bridge.

I love love love my Lian Li PC-9F. It looks fantastic and is very functional, so I voted for that.

A few tips are to buy a Lian Li DVD Drive Bezel, and replace the front fans with white case fans for a nice contrast smile.gif

Well then how about this, would your wife like something as massive as a 600T on her desk?
