toxic 6950 overclock

Thread Starter
Does anyone else have this card, or a non toxic version? How far can this thing overclock without blowing anything up.

Which program should i use? MSI afterburner, CCC, or Trixx? help appreciated

Well it's different for each individual card; just increase things in small increments, test stability, wash rinse repeat.

I personally like afterburner, but they're all good I'm sure.
MSi afterburner only works with Reference PCB or MSI cards Dont think that sapphire will be able to unlock the VOltage in Afterburner so use Sapphire Trixx
post #4 of 9
Use TriXX ... it's Sapphire's own product, it's free download off Sapphire's website, and it does everything and MORE that MSI Afterburnner can.

Also PLEASE keep in mind as SergeantSilent said it's different for each individual card/GPU chip. Same like CPU OverClocking, some get lucky and can push it to the Limit, while others get a dud that are barely good for anything over factory stock, it's the luck of the draw and can be hit or miss.

As you know the Sapphire HD-6950 TOXIC cards come FACTORY over clocked at 880 MHz Core clock, and 1300 MHz Memory clocks, and you should have a VERY GOOD (66-75%) chance at Un-Locking the Shader Clocks to 1538, or HD-6970 levels.

IF you haven't already done it, the first thing I'd do is see if that card can UnLock or not ... use my Step-by-Step Guide here - http://www.overclock.net/amd-ati/113...l#post15253189, it's easy and can UnLock a potential 7-10% boost in performance.

NOW, as for OC'ing the TOXIC even more, you should be able to be stable at stock voltage, which is already at 1.175v, somewhere within ...
= 900-960 MHz Core Clocks
= 1375-1450 MHz Memory Clocks
= Shaders Unlocked to 1538 via the BIOS Switch of course

with a slight bump up to 1.25v MAX don't over-volt above this, you should be close to the cards limits at ...
= 960-1000 MHz Core Clocks
= 1450-1500 MHz Memory Clocks
= Shaders Unlocked to 1538 via the BIOS Switch of course

I'd suggest you review OrangeBunnies Sapphire 6950 Toxic 2GB Overclocking & Unlocked thread.

ALSO this OverClockersClub Review I think took the TOXIC to it's outter most limits and he got lucky with a very strong GPU chip, but he got the TOXIC to 1010 MHz core clock & 1500 MHz Memory clocks.

well I have this card unlocked and I use 920 core clock and 1375 memory clock. I would suggest you to do like me. Get a video card benchnark like heaven benchmark and raise the setting step by step. If i was using more than 1375 memory clock i was loosing fps.
Same thing with more than 940 clock. I was lossing min fps and only getting small inscrease. And minimum fps is more important in my opinion.

Another thing. if you raise voltage. the warranty void.. so good luck with it and pushing card to their limit isnt always a good thing to do trust me.. with all the picture of burned card on the forum XD

well enjoy the baby like me and la kings fan do :O

Is there a way to know if I have the card with the newer bios without the power throttle issue?

I don't think you can tell without running stress tests to see if your card actually throttles or not. If you're playing games and see performance lags this would be the first clue, and then you'd need to bump up the Power-Tune to 20%-50% to keep this from being an issue.

Sapphire was suppose to release a FIXED BIOS for this, but to my knowledge they have not made it available to the public as of yet, though supposedly I've read that new production TOXIC's released since the [H]ard|OCP review have been addressed ... so if you got your card say before early/mid September maybe ... but if you bought it after Mid September most likely you don't. Though from what I understand they just edited the BIOS not released a NEW BIOS version, so not like you can check BIOS #version off of the card or anything. Frankly this is my ONLY gripe about the Card and Sapphire's CSS so far, this should have been addressed/handled better !

I usually clock my unlocked card at 925mhz with Afterburner. You can't really play with the voltage, but my clocks weren't much better in TRIXX and I like being able to have my fan profiles start at Windows startup.
