Abit ip35 Pro for MAME (arcade machine)

Thread Starter
I am currently building a full size arcade emulator machine that will be used on at least a 32'' TV. I want to use a Q6600 and an abit IP35 pro in this setup. The card I currently have does not have an HDMI output.

Would a 6770 be compatable with the abit IP35 pro?
In particular this card. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102940

Suggestions and advice is appreciated!

I feel like that card would be overkill for a MAME emulator. Is there a problem with something from an earlier generation?

I am looking for an HDMI output. The 6770 is at the $100 price point which is perfect. MAME and other emulators use mainly CPU and not much GPU, but I want to be able to use the HDMI.

my 4670 has HDMI and that has more than enough power for a mame emulator..

I don't mind spending a few extra dollars for a 6770. My main question is, is it compatable with the IP35 pro?

I don't see why it wouldn't be, but I'm honestly not sure.

Is there a particular reason why you need HDMI over just DVI? Are you trying to get the sound/audio in one cable business?

Yes. I am going to be using an arcade control panel that is on a pedestal stand approx 5-6ft away from the TV. The TV will be at minimum a 32 inch but will probably end up being in the 40 in range.

I will not only be using MAME but roughly 10 other emulators with a front end program called Hyperspin. These programs are mainly CPU driven, but I want HDMI for picture quality, easy of cable hookups as well as future upgrades.

I don't mind spending $100 on the card, I just do not know enough about them and want to avoid it not working well with my motherboard.

What you could do it try one of your 5770s in the mobo and see if it works. If the 5xxx series works, I'd be almost certain that the 6xxx series would work as well.

Didn't even think of this since my sig system was purchased as a prebuilt and it didn't dawn on me to take it apart to test my IP35.

Ha, thanks!

Hopefully someone will be able to answer this before I try, since it will take me about 30 min to move hardware and update drivers.
