Optimal mouse sensitivity in games

So how do you guys determine what sensitivity to set in games? Do you have some sort of ritual you do to find your fav sensitivity? Do you adjust yourself for the game? I prefer low sensitivity and have my DA set at 400 dpi.

What I like to do is play with the default sensivity set by the game which is usually higher than i'm used to. I'll keep playing into I come across moments where I'm like damn I could've killed him if my sens. was lower. So if the game allows it I'll tone down the sensitivity in small increments until I find a value i'm comfortable with. It's very time consuming but this is how I've done it since my ms ps/2 intelli mouse days.

I only play with 2 DPI steps, 2000 and 300. I switch on the fly in games. This is the way i've always played using my MX518, G5 and now G500.

400dpi, and adjust sensitivity till I find the same sensitivity if its a new game. Otherwise I have all my sensitivities written down.

What i do sounds silly. I place a few shortcuts. usually on per corner. i start at a very high settings and i try to land on each Icon and select them without missing. for like 10 reps. as soon as i miss i bring it down if it feels to slow I bring it back up till i find something that works.

Keeping FPS in mind tongue.gif I then launch Halo COD or something and test it out.

lol man I used to write down my kills along with my sensitivity for each round back in CS 1.3. I don't know I just liked experimenting with it. Didn't have no fancy on the fly dpi switcheroos back then.

Many people have asked this kind of question before and I suggest you should go to the topic that is stick on this box. I just want to add few things about your way to find your optimal sensitivity in games.

http://www.nextlevelgamer.com/tweaks/dont-modify-your-windows-sensitivity At this link you can find out that the best 1:1 move in windows is the best precision. Well, you should set your windows sensitivity is 6/11 and then find out what DPI suit you well. I hope in next windows versions, Microsoft could make other sensitivity steps more precise than at 6/11 step.

Next you can find out that some games enable you to turn on and off "Raw input" function like CSS but other games do not. So that means in "Raw Input" games, the circle can be like this your mouse configuration-> game sensitivity. Other games will use mouse input like this your mouse configuration-> windows sensitivity-> game sensitivity.

I think the best way to find you best sensitivity is just use these information that I give you above and then in games you can adjust DPI or sensitivity to find out your optimal mouse sensitivity. I suggest the feeling when you move the pointer on desktop should be the same as you move the pointer in games.

That is what I know, if make some mistakes please tell me because this subject is so interesting for me.

I like to play on the highest DPI possibly. I use 6400 DPI so when i play games i barley move my hand at all. I find that the faster the mouse the better u can play IF!!! you can control it. It is very very hard 2 play on 6400 dpi if ur used 2 something a lot slower. I would recommend that you increase your DPI until you hit the max DPI.

You will die a lot miss a lot of kills and lose a lot. Though as you get used to it you will find that you are a lot better then you were before.

Put it this way if you are playing Counter strike and need to do a 180 turn on 400 DPI it will take a good 5-10cm of hand movements where as for me on 6400 DPI it will be under 1mm. By the time you see me on 400 DPI my 6400 DPI would have killed you before you can even aim me. "i dont play CS much im not really that good lol but thats my point with higher DPI you can react a lot faster."

Also the type of game you play makes a difrince i play a lot of HoN so the faster the mouse is the faster i can use spells. With FPS a little slower is fine though i still like it as fast as it can go.

IMPORTANT NOTE. if you play on high DPI like 6400 make sure u have a good mouse pad. I never believed how important a mouse pad was. I have the vespula it has 2 sides speed and control. there a lot different. Belive it or not on speed its hard 2 close even my browser but on control i can move pixel by pixel.

Your best bet is to ignore the ultra high sensitivity guys and the ultra low sensitivity guys as both extremes will have a negative effect. You wont be able to be accurate with the above poster's derpy high sens, humans are not robots and cannot be accurate at such high sensitivities. You will find yourself at a disadvantage with a crazy low sensitivity in some games as well.

I suggest starting with a medium sensitivity, something around a 13 inch/360 and adjust from there depending on how slow or fast it feels to you. Its personal preference up to a certain point and then it becomes stupidity. Unfortunately there isn't a one size fits all sens that works for everyone.

And btw, your DA is at 450 CPI wink.gif
