They do have games from other publishers. i recall seeing portal 2 on origin.

I would like to point out the fact that if you allow both steam and origin to load with windows when your computer starts your just wasting processing power that could have been spent else where. I always turn off auto start on EVERYTHING, the only things I currently let auto start is: audio driver manager AND the update manager for my anti virus software, and I might shut that down too..

Depends.

I personally dont run super pi/prime 95, unzip trillion terabyte files and encode media files while gaming/surfing the internets so I'm not really losing out on too much.

Horses for courses I guess.

Steam doesn't collect any data unless you allow them to, and that is a manual process every time that only collects hardware data. Origin not only collects information on your hardware but it also collects information on programs and other data on your computer, all without your direct consent.
1. You give them your consent when you agree to the EULA.

2. Steam collets program data.

It's no surprise that Origin does this and Steam does not. EA has proven themselves to be one of the most untrustworthy game publishers time and time again. They will continue to put their shareholders' interests in front of any customer interests. If this means employing an intrusive client that accesses your information for more profit, so be it.
Steam collects program data though......as shown here:

Steam hardware surveys are purely voluntary. That means you never have to give that information to Valve to use Steam.

Funny, cause I'm sure the point that Steam actually DOES collect program data when you're so sure that it doesn't is quite a valid point? (Or are you pretending that you actually never discussed it?)

As is the fact that you do actually give Origin consent to collect hardware/program data when you agree to their terms and conditions.

Never mind though....

That can be tweaked in the origin settings. I had the Bf3 beta go my Raid 0 samsung F3 1tb. Its a very easy tweak as well.

In terms of features there are dozens of very useful ones (maybe not useful to you but clearly useful to the millions that use it); namely Gifting games which is so huge they've even included a trading system recently which takes advantage of this. There's also the ability to join a game that your friend is playing from friends list..
I use these features without even thinking and take it for granted. There are dozens of other unique perks to it too like Steamworks, screenshot capture functions, brilliant sales (mostly unmatched) and few others.

What has Origin got? Sure they have a better download management feature.. but that's all I can highlight. Also Download speed is an irrelevant reason, as it varies from person to person, depending on where they are located and what game they are downloading - Same as Steam!

Ultimately, Valve hasn't directly done anything bad to its customers in all the 5 years I've been using it (unlike other companies - including EA). And before you start, I am not a fanboy of Valve... I actually prefer CD Projekt more than any company out there and there's a reason for that!
I treat these companies just like I would a person: If I get respect from them, they get respect from me.

Can you remind me what has Valve done that's so bad for gamers?

- I haven't seen them buy small studios and then shut them down.
- I haven't seen them purchase exclusive sports rights because another company started to make a superior product (NFL 2k was better than any Madden game).
- I haven't seen them push $60 price tags down the throats of gamers everywhere for games that simply don't meet that price point in terms of quality.
- I haven't seen them push DLC for micro-transactions to buy product already in the game. For example - the Godfather game they sold weapons and ammo.
- I haven't seen them run the cash-cow mill and force a recently bought studio to rush out a sequel to an amazing game knowing full well the game was going to be absolute garbage. Doing so because they knew they could achieve sales by riding on the still fresh success of the original game.

And you wonder why people hold respect for Valve/Steam...

P.S let's see if you can guess who did all the points above

EFFFFFF EA for buying Origin.
If EA continues to supply me with useful promo codes, I'll continue to shop on Origin. 25% off BF3, free Dead Space 2, 60% off Crysis 2... Yeah, I like it well enough. (Not a Steam alternative by any means, but I do not mind using it)

We've been over this a million times now. Steam does not collect information that is beyond the Steam folder. There is no proof that it does. There is proof though that Origin collects information on files that are beyond the Origin folder and completely unrelated to Origin or any of the games on Origin.

The hardware survey is not valid in this argument. They never force you to take the survey. It is completely at will.
