hmmm

hmmmm

why?

Notice how it says daily in the title. I don't think they are talking about total users.

5 Million isn't surprising. Huge number of people probably preordered BF3. Not to mention a large amount of those people probably allowed Origin to run at startup.

Becuase 8 million people playing the BF3 beta does not equal 5million unique users in one day as the article talks about. I was also thinking say that 5mil was all bf3 pre-loads. That means there is more likely more people with BF3 that didnt start that yet. More people will probably get it on consoles. That is some pretty good sales figures right there.

But that aside, i don't recall saying that steam shouldn't make their games available in other stores. But you can't dismiss that fact that Steamworks is a major bonus for anyone. It has a good server browser, it's got an overlay, in most cases plenty of your friends on a chat list. It's kind of a tough area, because more platforms like it would maybe make them both better...but in the end it's gonna be another "amd vs nvidia" kinda thing with some people defending one community and vice versa. It's really hard to conclude on something like this because there is ALWAYS gonna be personal bias on it, no one is truly objective. My friends are on Steam, i have a lot of games there, there are a lot of games available, they have nice, sometimes even insane sales... You can't really blame a person for preferring that solution over a brand new service run by a company with a questionable reputation with fewer games.
Just pointing out some irony for you, which is also linked to the deludedness I talked about earlier.

Steamworks in only a bonus for anyone who cares about those server browsers or friends lists.

People who want to play Metro or HL2 to finish the story aren't going to benefit from server browsers or friends lists (unless they REALLY like chatting while playing single player games).

I also didn't say there was anything wrong with having a preference, its just that its stupid for certain people (mostly delusional fanpeople) to be against publishers having their own clients, when they are supporters of publishers having their own clients.....until the water supply they've been urinating in finally turns their tap water yellow.

Bit too late to start that moaning now.

Ooohhhh, sorry about that then, I thought it was in total. It's hard to believe that EA actually has 5mil users daily. Although, those Steam stats aren't really daily, they over time during the whole day, I wonder how many different users in total connect to Steam daily?

5mil users daily on Origin when BF3 isn't even out... I'm skeptical.
The only thing that I don't like about Origin is that I have to launch the game through my browser and not the client itself. Seems kind of half-assed.
You get an (Defaulted yes) option to install Origin when you install any Sims games or expansion packs, that'll be where a good number of this 5 million comes from.
