Oh really? Which ones have unlocked multipliers? They can all be OCed via the BCLK. This is the basis for the SR-2.

The fact that the SR-3 exists at all is a testament to the fact that the E5-2600s will be OC'able in some fashion.

Edit- What part of the valley are you in? I'm in Fresno.

Obviously EVGA knows a lot of things we don't. There's no way they would have committed any resources to this project if the processors weren't going to be up to snuff. We'll just have to wait and see, but I am very optimistic.

I'll probably allow 2-6 months for some of you to be guinea pigs to make sure it doesn't have any issues. My only other concern is the amount of power draw from the wall ... but less than 4 gpus should run ok out of one outlet.

i have more important **** to do than play games, this is really what i need to get to. i've got this cpu pegged often and am already using 22gb of ram. datacenter in a box.
That Nagios program is amazing, thanks for sharing.

Problem I'm mainly referring to is simply booting up each machine and logging in via VNC...takes 5 minutes, not sure why I'm complaining. Everything after that is automated and controlled remotely right now via VNC/mRemote etc.

I assume Nagios does stuff like batch software installs though? That's super cool stuff...though each of my slaves only requires a grand total of 3 applications installed; Maya, VRay, Nuke.

Would take me probably 100x longer to learn how to run Nagios than to just nut up and install the software manually.

Well; 120V @ 15amps = 1800W, but that's not for constant usage. I believe circuitry is designed for 80% usage constantly and 100% usage only for short periods.

So that leaves you with 1440W to play around with more or less.

Long as you're not running much else from that breaker, you're fine even with Quad SLI...start throwing in monitors, speakers, lights, etc., though and who's to say?

Nope, it's normally a health monitor kind of thing. It's arbitrarily extensible though.. But really batch installs are an entirely different problem, i'm looking at something like cfengine for that. But so far i'm just using ssh -C inside of a for loop.

Does it fit in a HAF-X? That looks monstrously big.

Only Xeon E5. They have Dual QPI for Multi-CPU board support.

I had planned on getting a dedicated 20 amp 240v circuit put in in the event that the SR-3 would actually come to exist, and now that it has, I'm going to get that done.

For everyone who thinks that the SR-3 will fit in a lot of cases if you simply sacrifice the last couple PCIe slots, remember that HPTX boards are very, very deep. This is a problem even in cases that are designed to fit HPTX boards. It will not fit in a HAF X, I promise you that.

Lol I posted that at the beginning of all this type, trying to be optimistic that maybe processors other than the Xeons would be able to work on the SR-3. However over the past 24 hours I've come to terms with that almost for sure not being the case and will probably just end up buying some Xeons anyway. Intel->Me
