Did my 560 ti die?

Thread Starter
I was excited to try crysis 2 because of the origin sale today. I had just finished installing it and was messing around with the settings and clicked on the link to download the texture pack when my computer screen just went black. I think everything is working fine because when I reboot it I can type in my password and hear the windows noise, but the screen stays black.

This is my first pc in a while so I'm not sure whats wrong. I've been using this computer for months and everything seemed fine.

Update: DVI from my card to monitor is broken. It works with the vga cable, but when I try dvi, nothing appears on screen.

Switch over to IGP and verify it's working.

I hate to point out the obvious so don't get offended by this but it sounds like you just knocked the VGA/DVI/HDMI cable off because your computer will not boot/make sounds if the card is actually dead. Try replugging the cable at the back of the card and at the back of the monitor.

If his card was dead its impossible to boot/make sounds/allow him to enter his password etc. and on top of that his board doesn't have outputs for the IGP.

The cable is plugged in. I replugged it in multiple times because that really does seem like the problem. Everything boots fine and the fans are spinning in the card. Any other ideas?

Ok, I managed to get a hold of another monitor. It works, so I guess its not a videocard problem. Anyone ever heard of a couple month old monitor just breaking? When I power up the monitor, the logo for view sonic comes up normally, but when I power up the computer, the screen just goes black.

Did you check if the monitor is on and plugged in tight?

Had this happened to me on a MSI H61 board. Turned out to be a dead PCI-e slot. Went straight to RMA.

Try onboard video and another video card first. Try Safe Mode as well.
