6950 2GB Fan Vibrating.

Thread Starter
I have 3 6950s in Crossfire and I have just notices that one of them; being a VTX3D card; such as this one: http://www.vtx3d.com/news_content/11...20SOLUTION.pdf, Has what seems to be an unbalanced fan. I was running BOINC and due to the card being sandwiched it was running the fan at 80% and I could feel it vibrating itself and the card next to it. It's not like a ridiculous vibration and it doesn't make any noise or anything but I can feel it like a sort of throbbing and pulsing. Should I be concerned about this or just accept that it still works; nothing is perfect and move on?

Your help is appreciated!

You should fix it. It might be fine now but in the long run it will cause intermittent bad contact from card PCIe gold fingers to PCIe slot, result in severe damage to the card and the board.

Try to tighten the PCI barcket to the casing, if it doesn't help, replace the fan.

The thing is, replacing the fan would be extremely difficult, and it's not like it's a massive amount of vibration or anything either, like, the only way you can tell is if you put your hand on it and feel it vibrating slightly more then the others at high fan speed. Even if I tried to replace the fans I'm not sure how I could go about it since it's likely that if I tried to RMA it since it would probably be very hard to detect the store where I bought it from might not accept if they don't wee it as a problem which I imagine most people wouldn't.

Try contact the VTX3D Tech Support, see what they can come out with. I don't see a two-slotter custom cooler that you could get to replace it with. Last option is watercooling, also another uncertainty as your cards are non-refernce design to get a compatible waterblocks.
