going to china in about a month. got a few Qs regarding the Noppoo Choc Mini

1) I've heard the newer batches have better legends. do they still wear out fast though? and are they really gold like in this picture:

2) how does POM compare to PBT?

3) for those who have minis in brown switches, how do you find them for gaming? I was gonna go for another red switch like my poker, but the supposedly stiffer and snappier feel of the brown switches have piqued interest.

2) POM is actually more expensive and a more high quality material. But its more slippery than PBT or ABS
3) I find them great for gaming. I would say that blacks and reds are only very very slightly better but browns does much better for typing after you get used to the bump

hmm, well I don't mind slippery so I guess POM's gonna be awesome for me

yeah actually typing is partly why I'm getting the bump. my understanding is that it's there when you need it, and not there whenever you need to bottom out if that makes sense. but insofar as gaming is concerned, my understanding was that the bump allows you to 'feel' each keypress better, thus making gaming a little livelier and more fun, without being too obstructive.

The keycaps on my noppoo wore out in under a month which was disappointing. I do wonder how long it will last with new legends. Other than that it is a good board. I had a slightly rattley backspace which a few other people have had some rattly keys too. All around it is a good keyboard. I would recommend it. Browns are light and not very tactile compared to a lot of other switches. They will most likely not interrupt your gaming at all yet add a satisfying response to each keystroke.

I prefer the browns for gaming over all of the other types i've used so far (blacks, reds, blues)

The choc mini was great for gaming. Only reason i stopped using it was to use the filco m2 ninja I bought.

The keycaps on mine were not that bright, they were more of a brown printed on black and were only slightly visible. Had zero issues with the key caps wearing down. I used mine for ~3 months and it still looks brand new from everyday use.

I've not seen one of the new version of the Choc Mini so I can't comment on how their keycaps wear. Mine is one of the old one, and like magna224, wore out in well under a month(probably more like 2 weeks). I prefer PBT over POM because of the more textured feel of PBT. My Choc Mini has browns, and I like them better than blacks and blues, but I prefer reds over browns. Switch choice really is a preference, so you shouldn't let other people's opinions on switches sway your decision to try browns imo. Overall, the Choc Mini is a pretty sweet keyboard, especially for the price, and it's hard to go wrong with choosing brown switches.

well I just wanna hear what everyone thinks of the brown switches just to be sure that I can't go wrong with it for gaming (typing is already a certainty).

the wearing out of the legends is worrisome.. not so much because I need to be able to read them, but rather because of the consistency. if they're not gonna have decent uniform legends might as well just go otaku or ninja, geez ><

but it's nothing that will really deter me outright for getting one though.

still waiting with a new-batch choc mini to post..

Brown switches are great, my second favorite to reds. The browns have slight tactility to them and feel a tiny bit stiffer than reds, I believe this may be because of the tactility it offers over reds. Browns are definitely a fine switch for gaming and typing. Overall, I think that browns are a safe bet for most people.
