AMD Phenom II 955 + 6870 Crossfire

Hi,

I have this system:
Phenom II 955
GA-890GPA-UD3H
G.Skill ECO 4GB 1600MHz CL 7-8-7-24-2N
SAPPHIRE HD6870 (one for now)
Corsair HX850W
ZALMAN Z7 Plus

I wanted to ask if I add one more 6870 for crossfire my CPU will bottleneck it badly? And if I overclock it to 3.6-3.8 GHz it will be better?
about the overclocking, I'm not sure which cooler to buy - Scythe KATANA 3 or Arctic Freezer 13? maybe a better one? please dont give me something too expensive cuz this is not a crazy OCing, and I'm looking for something quiet and easy to install as well (I never installed a cooler before...)

Thank you!

There is NO chance your CPU will bottleneck those cards, you will have a sweet ass setup there fella.

I'd probably go with something like the Coolermaster Hyper 212+. It's pretty much the most cost effective cooler sub £50.

Actually, I have tried that setup and did experience a bottleneck even at 4.1Ghz. It was in the range of 4 - 5 fps on most games. I experienced no bottleneck with a single 6870 and only a minor one ( 2 - 3 FPS) with my GTX 580.

I was at 1920 x 1080 on all.

So what should I do?

What resolution?

With the Crossfire setup, you still will see a massive FPS increase over a single card. Even with a bottleneck of an estimated 8 - 9 FPS at 3.8Ghz.

It is definitely worth it!

I seriously doubt you're getting a bottleneck, unless your processor is maxing out you're fine.

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/301?vs=305

In short, just get it, even if there is a tiny bottleneck you'll be fine.

Btw, it took 3 GTX580's at 2500x1600 to bottleneck an i7, I seriously doubt 2 of these could possibly bottleneck a x4... If that's the case, you'd defo bottleneck on a 6990 and people don't.

It will bottleneck, but won't be the reason any game to run under 60 FPS. Well, at least @1080p. That is why I asked what resolution. For bigger screens/eyefinity faster CPU would come in handy...

not going to change soon...

Thanks everyone, I would appreciate if you answer me about the coolers.
