AMD Phenom II 955 + 6870 Crossfire - Page 2

My experience was with a 2600k at 4.1Ghz and A Phenom II X4 at the same Speeds. This is why I have my rigs setup as they are to minimize any, even slight, bottlenecks.

Still, My Phenom II with the 6870's was faster in gaming then the 2600k with the GTX 580.

at 3.8Ghz, The Hyper 212+ will keep the 955 cool enough!

What stepping is your chip? I have a C3 and I have mine OC'd to 3.8 at 1.375v with a Hyper 212+ If you have a C3 then you will be able to push it pretty easy. Those chips seem to be very OC friendly. Hyper 212+ EVO is $25 at Microcenter. Works just as well as any.

Idle 33-35C

Dude,

There is no way at all those GPU's will bottleneck on your i7.

http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforc...-sli-review/11

Read the article, it took 3 580's to bottleneck an i7.

well, that means that PII x4 does not bottle neck a GTX580 most of times... and I agree with that

I never experienced a bottleneck with the I7. With the Phenom I did.

This is the point dude, the Phenom is nearly as good with gaming as the i7. You can't say that the phenom is that much worse than the i7 at gaming when... just..

Look, you're wrong, plain and simple.

I have like the exact same cpu and graphics card as you. I am unsure how to judge bottlenecking but I can max crysis 2 and it's smooth as hell (dx11 + high res texture makes me lag so I don't use it) and I can pretty much max every game I have with no real problems (Shogun 2 , Dirt 3 , Civilization V, Napoleon Total War and many others)

On the overclocking note I can get my 955 to 4.0 Ghz 1.4v and be idle at like 28-30 depending on ambient and when stress testing I max out at around 50.

One more side note is I would HIGHLY suggest making sure the airflow for your case is up to scratch. I got my second 6870 and I bought no more fans for the stock r3 and my cards hit quite high temps. I added like 1 intake and 1 exhaust and now it's sitting nicely at lower temps.

EDIT: PS if you want I can do single gpu vs crossfire in dirt 3 benchmark and tell you the difference.

I have the 212+ and I can overclock to the max of like 4.0 and keep decent temps. Depending on your ambients the chip you have and all that stuff I am willing to bet the 212+ will do you fine. Although I have heard good things about the Scythe Mugen 2(I think a 3 is out).
