580 backplate with a heatkiller block?

Thread Starter
I recently saw another member with a backplate painted white that I really liked. Was wondering if anyone has an EVGA or even an EK for that matter backplate with a 580 gpux3 heatkiller block?

Here is one of my 580s with the HeatKiller and EVGA back plate. You have to cut a notch in the back plate for the HeatKiller water ports. You also need low profile screws to fit under the back plate that screw into the water block (I think 4 of them) I used MDPC screws.

Go with the EK one, you might need different screws though. I did the EVGA backplates but I had to cut them and modify them a bit to get them to work on HK 580 blocks.

Yah the EK's look better. I don't really have anything to mod them with. I guess you would need to take them to a grinder or something right?

For the EVGA backplates, a dremel/rotary tool w/ a cut-off wheel is fine and a drill with some bits or better yet a stepping bit.

the ek backplate has not obstructions, but you'll need to get some different screws to make it work. Check mcmastercarr.com for screws

this is how it looks combining an EK backplate with an heatkiller gpu block!

I "cheated" by reusing ek's screws. But you're 2 short.. so I used heatkiller's screws for the upper and lower left screws like in this pic ( silver screws = heatkiller, black = ek)
IMG_20111110_023441.jpg

they're the same length but the head is obviously different
IMG_20111110_022300.jpg

the spacing of those two screws with the backplate. fits flush! but it doesn't work with the other places even if the ek backplate is grooved.
IMG_20111110_024356.jpg

and voila!
