Which GTX 580? - Page 2

All I can say is, the ENGTX580 DCII would run nice and cool. Good OCability, while maintaining the life of the card. SLIing two of these can cause a problem seeing as they take up 3 slot spaces instead of the traditional two for the improved cooling provided. On your mobo, they would be right next to eachother. I have two ENGTX570 DCIIs in SLI and I had to wedge a spacer between the two cards (carefully) to provide better temps to the top card. The bottom stays below 50C under extended full load, the top stays below 85C.

You could get this sucker, and then SLI it with another 2 slot 580 later down the road (perhaps a cheaper reference card, or a nice overclocker), instead of another DCII. Should work great either way. I plan on upgrading my mobo next to improve cooling to my top card by providing more space in between them (probably RoG mobo or something). Hope this helps!

Mine shipped today. Its price is decent and you get a $50 rebate Amex card. Is like getting the AC Accelero HSF for free. Seems well reviewed too. Never had a Galaxy card - they have a three year warranty. There's a Galaxy US service rep who frequents [H]ard OCP forums and he always says if you have problems with service to PM him, so I'm not worried.

EVGA's warranty from what I understand is great in the US but terrible elsewhere. Somewhat like galaxy in the states, good luck RMA'ing anything with them.

Again to the OP:

a) don't care about overclocking: Get gainward, palit, any reference design - get whatevers cheapest and take the warranty into consideration

b) plan to SLI in the future: any reference design if you don't care about overclocking, get MSI or gigabyte/asus if you want to overclock (must have a good case with good air flow for aftermarket cooling)

c) single gpu and you want to overclock: MSI lightning hands down the best, also good are asus DC2, gigabyte super oc, maybe gainward (? ) not sure

1.5gb is fine for 1080p, which you stated is your intended resolution. +rep if helped

imo asus dc2 and msi lightning r both awesome cards...after saying this,it comes to personal choice n price factor...take whichever u like out of them.....

although the gainward 3gb model also amuses me...

Zotac, Palit, Gainward, Inno, Galaxy, Leadtek are gutter brands, don't be cheap when buying a 580 please or I'll smack you

Best in this order

MSI Lightning Xtreme 3GB>MSI Lightning 1.5GB>EVGA Classified 3GB>Asus ROG Matrix Platinum>Gigabyte Super OC

The rest throw away..

PS Gainwards run hotter than a microwave!

Wait, your res is a measly 1680x1050, and you're wanting a GTX 580? Man, you'd max games out on a GTX 560. Upgrade to a 24" 1920x1080 at least.

I love my lightning but reference can be situationally better for SLI. Thats a lot of heat dumped into your case...as well as 4 slots vs 2. Just sayin
