New RAM for laptop

Thread Starter
I'm thinking about getting 8 gb or RAM (2x4gb) for my laptop. I have 4 slots for ram and two of them came with 2 x 2gb stock RAM. I'm wondering if I should keep the RAM that was installed and add the 8gb so i would have a total of 12 gb RAM or would it end up having adverse effects.

This is the ram i was planning on getting

Check CPU-Z first to see the speed and timings of the 2x2gb you have now, and make sure you buy the same speed and timings to avoid problems, otherwise as long as you are running 64-bit OS you should have no problem using all 12gb.

this is what cpu-z says about my ram. the latency seems the same, but i'm not sure exactly what dram frequency means.
