New Intel build. Cheapo style

Thread Starter
Hey everyone its been a while since ive been on here so bare with me. Anyways I found that I need to upgrade from my current comp. and it seems that Intel is the way to go this time. its been a while since my last Intel com...Pentium 4 from 03'. Anyways couple things to note:

- Budget is $700
- Not a PC gamer but I multi-task a large amount; Videos editing/music/large amount of open windows/movies. Also, would love to able to play BF3 with great settings but isn't necessary
- Items already bought include the Case(haf x), Screen, windows 7(Also how many times can the boot disk be used for new CPU's?), mouse&keyboard, 2.1 klipsch promedia, soundcard
- Future proof with Ivy Bridge
- Don't plan on xfire nor SLI
- Will OC in the future but not at the moment
- Only air cooling
- Maybe an SSD Crucuial M4 boot drive?

Hopefully you guys can help me out. And ask me any question to better this build.

Thanks in Advance everyone!

Asus P8P67 Pro
8GB RipJawX
2500k
MSI GTX460 Hawk
Antec Earthwatts or Corsair 600/650 PSU
Spinpoint 1TB HDD
M4 64GB SSD
Thermalright HR02 Macho

video editing does not rely on GPU so a faster CPU would be beneficial for that however in your budget I dont know if you can do a decent system with a 2600k.

thanks for the reply guys. also nekromantik, i will upgrade the CPU but probably next year or when Ivy Bridge comes out. looks like both builds and others around the same price range have very similar items but just a couple questions:

is there any significant differences between these two motherboards to justify the $30?

the z68 does SSD caching and can use integrated graphics. you don't need that. just get the p67.

i'd go even cheaper and get

ASRock P67 PRO3 (B3) for 119 as you don't plan on SLI or crossfire.

also, an SSD will serve you well for surfing and multitasking. it really makes a difference in every aspect of computing.

better of getting the z68 has SSd caching is good if you have a SSd or planning to get one
post #7 of 8
if the SSD is only for the boot drive, the extra 2 usb 2.0 ports and the extra audio port isn't gonna justify the cost difference between boards. Both are great choices in terms of motherboards

The Asrock E3 G3 three would be $125, nothing comes close to the value that board.
