Overclocking Core 2 quad q8400 for TF2 ect

Thread Starter
I play a lot of Scouce based games on my sig computer. It is running at its stock speeds of 2.66ghz. From the research that I have been doing games like tf2 like fast Cpu speeds. Will overclocking my cpu to about 3ghz help?

Maybe a couple of FPS id say 5-8 tops.
more than likely 2-5 fps
Worse than crack.

Yes it should help a good bit. At stock (2.4) speeds on my q6600, I can't keep my fps above 120 (which is unfortunate because I'm using a 120hz monitor), but with modest overclock to 3.0 I get 20-30 fps extra over stock.

Source games love clockspeed. If you have the cooling capacity, I say you should go for it.

Many people have been saying it will go up a considerable amount of frames, because my CPU is bottle necking my gpu.

Well, I am using a stock cooler, but since there are 3ghz core 2 quads running of the same cooler do you think I would be able to get away with it?
Probably, but with Hyper 212+ at such low prices why bother using the stocker?

You'd probably gain more FPS from upgrading your GPU. Source games really don't take much to run well at average res.

First part is correct.

Second part is wrong

Overclocking your CPU will make a huge difference in your overall performance on the Source engine.

My e8400 pulls on a average of 450fps on the Source stress test.

EDIT: Hmm apparently the stress test is broken now -_-
