antec 1000w not good enough for 580 sli? - Page 2

The PSU should be fine, 1KW is more than enough for those cards.

Have you tried reinstalling drivers?

My cards had a similar issue a few times and a driver reinstall fixed it.
They played things like CS:S perfectly but Dirt 2, BF3 and black ops would black screen a few seconds in.

i was so confident that my psu could handle 2 580s because an AX850 can at least (correct me if im wrong) is it because they're both superclocked? i disabled sli and ran 3dmark vantage just fine, but with it on it shuts off at exactly on the same part where the girl escapes with the boat out the cave. it's weird because it's always on that part, not even before it when i run it again right after.

An Antec 1000W should be more than enough for 580 SLI unless you have some very extreme overclocks on your CPU and GPUs.

GTX 580 overclocked=~300W each

My entire system pulls 650 watts under load from the wall during Metro 2033.

For reference.

I would suggest to everyone and everybody to buy a kill-a-watt meter. This will definitively help you feel more conformable about your PSU choice in the future. One test and you know for sure!

GET it. It could save you one day!

strange...maybe i have to fully wipe my drivers and reinstall to see if that would fix the issue. thanks a lot guys for all your replies really appreciate it!

@acefire - will check that out! looks interesting

oh yeah i'm not really overclocking that much (2600k @ 4.5 & gtx 580 @ 797mhz stock) i put everything back to defaults and it still happens. I'll keep trying and see what's the problem i really don't want to spend anymore money right now, but i will if it's necessary. thanks again for all your help!

Yup seconded, not a fanboi but when I upgrade I go for quality & the AX1200 is a 9/10. Look at Amazon, they had it for 259 a couple of weeks ago which is a bargain.

I have a feeling it has nothing to do with your PSU and everything to do with an unstable OC from the factory. Many who run EVGA SC cards have this problem (especially the 560's). If you run EVGA precision or MSI Afterburner give the cards about 50mv extra and see if it happens again. SLI causes the cards to use slightly more voltage than a single, maybe due to the cross-talk. I ran into a similar problem with my 580 Matrix SLI, OC would be stable at a certain voltage for each individual one but in SLI they needed more. You might have one card that is running right on the edge of what it can do at the stock volts.

I also noted that with the newest round of drivers crashes due to insufficient voltage stopped going back to the desktop and rather rebooted the whole machine, especially in SLI.
