Fan conroller question

Thread Starter
How many of you use a hardware fan controller? I have one that went bad after 4 years and am looking for some advice. It does mess up a case some but I have a way to hide cables in my case. I like to be able to shut some down or at least run them at low speeds if the temps are right. This is the easiest way to do it.

To answer both your questions in one hit...

Lots of people use HW Fan controllers. Some people buy them; some people build them... I built mine simply because I wanted a project and this gave me something new to learn. Oh and also because I wanted a true PWM controller and none are available on the market.

As to which are to be recommended... It all depends on a few things:

- What fans do you plan on hooking up to them? This is needed in order to determine the power draw of said fans so that a controller that meets that requirement is recommended.

- What's your budget? You can buy fan controllers in a very wide range of prices. Some are $10 and some will run you more than a couple hundred bucks. The most popular controllers out there will be in the $50 - $100 range.

Just to get you started... Look up Lamptron Fan controllers; they have a wide selection of very good quality units that will fit almost anyone's budget and meet anyone's requirements.

Newegg has the Rheosmart 6 on sale right now.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...11995075-L023D

6 channels with 30W per channel. It features automatic control that uses the pwm sensor on your motherboard and manual that goes from 0-12v. I've had mine a few weeks now and it's working out great.

Edit: The fans don't need to be pwm fans, the six fan headers are 3 pin and there's a separate 4 pin pwm connector that connects to the motherboard. It uses those readings to automatically adjust fan speeds for the other six fans
