Why "no 3d", the point of getting 3D monitors is really for the 120 Hz making things look smoother. For gaming and $500, your best bet is the S23A950D. Just don't use the 3D function. If you're asking for a good IPS monitor, then you might do very well with a Dell U2412M (or U2410).

Yup, the Asus VG236 is 3D *capable* but can be bought without the 3D Vision set up for under $350...and it's a really great monitor (colour, crisp, etc) and enjoy the 120Hz gaming smoothness.

IPS panel and gaming is a no-no in my book. Grab the Asus VG236HE, or SAMSUNG S23A950D. Both are 120hz, which is perfect for gaming needs.

This kind of comment always seems so generalizing

It always depends on the model. And the ZR24w just happens to be one of the faster ones, though still a bit worse than the usual TN. Some models like the dell u2312hm beat even some 120hz monitors at ghosting and input lag, though, refresh rate is still only 60hz.

I also recommend the asus VG236HE if you play a lot of FPS.

I would certainly buy a 3D display just for the 120Hz mate, not like 3D is worthwhile anyway, but 120Hz is.

120hz is great but IPS is beautiful and hp's tend to have low input lag. Depends on what preference is. He did say non 3d so I assume no 120hz. I know 120hz isn't strictly 3d. Just assumptions, yeah yeah assumptions
