6970 in Crossfire gives lower FPS than single GPU?

Thread Starter
I bought two HD 6970 for my new setup and I tried it this morning and I get 5fps less than with a single 6970.

I tried many games, like Rage, Crysis, Crysis 2 , dead Island.

I have all the latest drivers and application profile.

My Mobo bios is up to date

Is my CPU overclock bottlenecking my Crossfire setup?

I wouldnt think so. Are both cards registering in ccc? Did you uninstall the previous drivers and clean the registry before installing your new cards? Do you have the crossfire bridge installed? Are your gpus overclocked at all?

I would install afterburner and have it record your gpu utlization under load to get an idea what is happening under the "hood".

How do I remove files in registry, do I use driver sweeper?

You can do it manually if you want (search oc.net for manually removing amd drivers from reg) or use a program such as CCleaner. Ccleaner is free, constantly updated and works well for removing hd junk and cleaning the reg.

Ive used ccleaner for years on all my pcs i use.

Before using CCleaner (I've used it for programs before, wouldn't recommend it for this situation though it may do the job), I would definitely get the newest version of driver sweeper, do an uninstall of Catalyst/drivers, reboot, do a driver sweeper, reboot, then reinstall 11.9, then the CAPs.

It's weird that you're not getting usage. It sounds like App profile problems though. I know I had that with F1 2011. F1 2010 runs like a dream in eyefinity, but 2011 ran like dirt until I disabled crossfire entirely, and with 1 6950 it ran much faster, but still not very well. I still occasionally have software problems with crossfire, but it's nothing like the old days. These days most of the issues are fixed with a quick cleanup and reinstall of drivers. Some games just don't get app profiles, and you just have to disable crossfire for decent performance.

I'm curious if it's specific to those games listed above.

Can you run furmark with xfire enabled/disabled and post the results.
