For BF3: 2560x1600 running ultra quality settings, while maintaining 60FPS, calls for 2x: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121430

Remember, that's two HD6970's in CrossFire.

Edit - On high quality, it's the same story:

"Not unlike previous results we find that the 2560x1600 resolution calls for a dual-GPU solution, even with the high quality preset in use. The GeForce GTX 580 averaged just 34fps, while the GeForce GTX 570 and Radeon HD 6970 averaged 31fps. South of those graphics cards there is nothing worth talking about.

This time the Radeon HD 6990 outgunned the GeForce GTX 590 by 4fps with an average of 57fps. The Radeon HD 6970 Crossfire and GeForce GTX 580 SLI configurations both averaged 64fps."

6950's or 6970's in CF would be a great option. Make sure they have the 2GB RAM. The Asus one jlells01 referenced is a triple slot card so two of them will possibly have airflow issues or may not fit on your mobo depending on your PCIe slot layout.

there are plenty of good dual slot alternatives.

The 7000 series GPUs are coming out early next year so they may also be worthwhile waiting for.

I'm on 2 GTX570 (same as 2 6970) and I can safely say 2 is NOT enough. Should be enough for 1200p but not this resolution.. -I see the chart above, and you have to turn some settings down to get 60fps+

Look at the benchmark above.

Your most likely going to have to drop down AA and fudge around with other settings to run it 60fps at that rez unless you go with tri-fire 6970s. Maybe you can "get away with" a pair of 580s.

If it was me i would xfire some 6950s or 6970s and fudge with the settings to run stable 60 frames a second. You wont know the difference when everything is running full steam ahead if you have to drop aa a little and youll be saving hundreds.

they are basically the same in performance but not in VRAM. You may have been running out of VRAM at that resolution and that's why they weren't enough.

Like bce22 said just mess with the settings for MP to get that 60FPS.
Personally I think needing to Max out BF3 is stupid. And currently with our tech isn't worth the money either when we are so close to the next generation of GPU's. Which are probably going to perform a lot better in BF3 for the same price as our current gen cards.
In the beta I played on a 9600gt on low @ 720p and it looked amazing. So basically anything above low that I can get 60FPS on with my hd 6970 ill be really happy. Heck I'd even play on low again lol.

I know my 2 6970's are not going to give me 60fps in eyefinity on ultra so at your res you may get close to that. I could not get 60 in the beta and that was not giving the full ultra settings but mostly medium and high and I got no more than 30-35fps. I plan to get an Asus maximus extreme board with 4 slots to add a third card. After looking at the info on the newer 7970's I do not think they will give so much more performance that it is worth upgrading to them. May wait until the next generation cards come out or wait to see what Nvidia puts out over the next year.
