Should I upgrade GTX 460 for Battlefield 3?

Thread Starter
This is my first build, very new, but today I remembered I am getting a 500 dollar christmas bonus from work around november. I would like to run BF3 maxed out, I believe the rest of my system could handle it. Would the difference from a 460 to a 570 or 580 be substantial/worth it?

This should unequivocally answer your question:

The jump to a 570 or 580 would be noticeable yes and probably needed if you wanted to run maxed out at 60FPS but I know my 5850 handles it fine (haven't actually gotten FPS readings, just played the game redface.gif) Just looking there, is your CPU at stock speeds ?

28 fps? damn, not sure but i believe its more optimized for the 500 series.

You'll be fine with 8xAF.

i personally wouldnt believe all this annoying benchmarking that people do i can play battlefield with a phenom II 965 and a gts 450 and i get about 30 fps average on ultra settings.

i have heard enough people say it requires a radeon 6970 or a gtx 560.

i never believe the internet on these things smile.gif

You would see a decent difference if you overclock that bad boy to 4.4GHz, just buy a new cooler for it. Would be a big chunk cheaper than a new GPU too !

Keep in mind, you do not have to play on High. The game doesn't look horrible on Low to be honest. Go with what you can afford. I'm waiting on Kepler, even though I can't do 60fps on High, who cares? I'm happy with Medium until the next generation. On Low, you'd have quite fantastic performance. The game looks great on all settings. The worst part about Low, is jagged shadows, but I don't notice that when I'm shooting people in the head.

A lot of people like to be around 60 fps (me included). Also keep in mind the top end graphics (ultra) weren't even implemented in the beta biggrin.gif.
