I have a q8200 my 6870 is only being used 60% but it runs FO3 on max settings very smooth. So if skyrims like FO3 you're good.

Seriously though did I ever mention selling the whole system and building a new one? Dont know if you realized it but setting up the computer takes time, and motherboards and ram cost money too. She lives far away and I have to guide her with this crap over the phone.

I'm an AMD fanboy but sheesh bud. This is the ******* INTEL section.

Anyway a q6600+6850 = $250
A e5700+6790 = $200
A 6770 = ~$100

x4+decent motherboard+ram+6850 = 115+100+40+150 = 405 not to mention a decent cooler if I want to overclock.

LOL fail! #1 dude you never mentioned a damn budget. #2 If you need to guide her, why exactly are you having her build it? Failure on her end is inevitable. I'm just waiting for a new thread from the OP titled, "Is my motherboard fried?" You're right $400 is a pretty steep price, but you could have then sold all her old stuff easily for $75..maybe even $100 as a bundle and recouped some money. Remember, you came here asking for people's opinions, so don't take it up the butt when they give you an answer you don't like.

So because she's a girl she can't build a system? I have worked with her over the phone to overclock her e2140 and do stability testing and all that.
She also managed to setup dual boot OSs on her HD on her own. Changing a CPU and graphics card is totally different from setting up a new rig. Yes I agree, that I didn't mention that this was not an option, but I thought it was pretty obvious considering I was looking for a cheap upgrade in the INTEL section. Remember the thread title "Which CPU upgrade from e2140 for Skyrim?"?

By the way I think we've decided on waiting for more details and JUST getting the appropriate GPU when the time comes, probably a $150 card but maybe a $100 card and if she's not happy with it, then dropping in a 45nm Quad, so I may just get an 8200 after all. If the q6600 at 3.6 is gonna cause a lot of heat and maybe noise, she'd rather settle for 3.2+ on an 8/9xxx series quad.
