I have found one with your identical card and it seems that he needs to raise the PS by +5%, otherwise lockups.

Yes, I have gone all the way up to 20%

On a side note, I've had similar issues with my 6970 (can't bring myself to RMA....using a GTX460 for 2-3 weeks might kill me lol). I'm beginning to think there's just a batch of 6970 dies that were really bad and got distributed to multiple vendors... :/.

Anyways, the problem seems to be with the 6970 ... (remember to stick to using one card until the troubleshooting is over... i.e., take the 6950 out or vice versa). Is it just lock-ups with the soundloop (at times) or do u get a grey/black/white screen with vertical lines at times too?
There is no sound looping, it is fine then BAM crash and whatever is on the screen at the time stays there.

Make sure that voltage reading is correct then return the factory overclocked 6970. Replace it with reference 6970 if you can.

Was most certainly correct, tested it again.

Put in an RMA. Thanks for all the help.

I had this issue with my Vtx x editions in cf.
i fixed it by upping the volt in ccc by 1%
