Intel i5 2500k temp - Page 3

If you actually did put the TIM underneath the processor I think it may be near impossible to get that out. Whether or not it will hurt your CPU I have not the slightest idea. I know it can't be good for it though.

Before applying the TIM, did you get rid of all the older TIM on the CPU cooler and the CPU itself? If not give it a good cleaning to get rid of all the TIM (do not use water, just feel I have to mention that). Then reapply the TIM JUST on the CPU with a pea sized amount (as previously said)

Is the 60-70 at idle or load temps? Regardless it is A LOT better than the 95ish you were at before.

I turn on my pc, then as soon as i can i open speccy and it shows 60-70 degrees, moving up and down.
a few weeks ago it was at 40 degrees.. :/
I really really don't want to ruin my cpu.

ok..shut it down..take the cooler off..clean the heatsink/cpu TOP with either a coffe filter (best) or kinda lint-free paper towel with alcohol, acetone,or nail polish remover..(until it's clean)then put a pea-sized drop of TIM on top of the cpu..pres the cooler down and squish it in..without letting up..secure the 4 studs

Also looking at you speccy screenshot your ram is running in single channel?

Remember ram should be in slots 1 & 3 or 2 & 4 for Dual channel to be enabled (faster).

For the CPU I would highly recommend the Cooler master Hyper 212+ try Newegg.ca as a place to purchase it from it's not expensive and will make a world of difference to your temps.

Also here is a great link describing how to apply tim to this type of cooler. From my experience I filled in the gaps then applied 3 lines approx 1cm in length on the base. idle 27c-30c / load in games 45c-50c / prime (max) 61c @ 4.2ghz.

------------------------------------
As for your Stock heatsink 1 pea size as others have said and it will look like this :

At 60-70 you will be fine and it won't be degrading your CPU. But that's at idle. Try opening up a game and playing it a little bit with realtemp/coretemp and report back with what your Max temp was. Just about 5-15mins of the game should give us a general understanding of what it will go to.

I think you just got a bad CPU. It should never get that high.

Edit: Although the Intel stock cooler is pretty awful so maybe it's an issue.
