Windows slow when extracting/moving files - Page 2

My head hurts from reading all these posts without punctuation...

Check the life of your SSD drive using SSDLife. You may have worn out the cells already.

Alternatively, please make sure you have updated Intel RST drivers installed on your system.

The main issue here is that you are running off a single drive. windows, internet explorer, other applications, all require I/O operations of some sort. hard drives are not multi-threaded like processors are. They cannot truly multi-task. If you're moving a huge file around, it is going to either cap out the bandwidth on the bus, or the speed on the read/write mechanism itself (be it flash nand, or spinning disk and read head), depending on which is more limited in any given case (unless another point bottlenecks first, such as your cpu. in your case this is unlikely).

Think about it the way you would think about internet bandwidth, if you are participating in an extremely active torrent, which is capping out your download and upload, getting ocn to load is going to take a while. Same thing applys to your hard drives and the data on them.
