Gtx570 rip?

Thread Starter
I was playing Crysis 2 today, and my computer randomly shut off. No BSOD or error code, it just powered off and rebooted about 3 seconds later. As my PC was rebooting, I got a whiff of burnt electronic smell. I promptly shut off my computer and took off my side panel to smell my GPU. I didn't really smell anything besides warm electronics. So I figured I load up 3DMark11 to see what happened. Before the first test was even loaded my PC shut off again. I stuck my nose right beside my GPU as soon as it did, but I didn't really smell anything. That is until my PC was rebooting again and I got a whiff of the same smell again. Either the GPU fan is forcing it out the back of the card and I don't smell it until it diffuses enough into my room for the smell to reach my nose, or I am looking in the wrong place for the smell.
I plan to remove my 570 tomorrow and repeat a graphics stress test with my 9800GT to see if the same thing happens. If it doesn't reboot, I suppose I'll dismantle my 570 to see if I can see any burn marks. Any other troubleshooting procedures I can do? It did cross my mind that it could be my PSU, but my system shouldn't be anywhere near taxing my AX850 and I know that 570s have VRM issues, that is why I suspect it more than anything else.

tl;dr: GPU intensive things make my PC shut off and during the reboot process I smell burning electronics.

Oh, I don't run my card at my sig rig OC 24/7. I run it stock with a custom fan profile (0-50c = 60% fan and after that it climbs to 100% fan as it reaches 75c).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for your loss CarFreak302, but it doesnot make sense since you were running Crysis 2 with stock clock of your card. But first I would reccommend you to check PSU, try different PSU and see if its normal or not in your rig, then you can try to check your card.

I was thinking psu also until I had a look at your sig. No way it's that thing unless you popped a cap. Be sure to check with your manufacturer before you start taking your gpu apart. you may void the warranty. I suggest calling them first.

It's an EVGA card, so it's golden for dismantlement. And it has given me a few issues over the last few months. That's what made me drop it to stock clocks. And Crysis 2 had DX11 and high res textures running at maximum settings. And it initially died during a very intense scene, lots of stuff going on with lots of particles zipping around. I also ran 3DMark11 again, not really sure what I was expecting, but I heard a pop and the burnt electronic smell got really bad. It came from my GPU's area. So I think it might have gone to GPU heaven. It was a good clocker too
I have to "troubleshoot" with EVGA before they will let me RMA.
Talk about bad timing. I'm gonna miss BF3 launch
