Mobo Upgrade Advice Please

Thread Starter
Currently I am using MSI 790fx-gd70, and it seems to be the component that is holding me back from OC'ing further, not to mention it only has Sata 3GB/s. I intend to upgrade to a board with Sata 6GB/s and most importantly, highest OC potential for my 970 BE.

I am not sure between these two boards here:
ASUS Sabertooth 990fx Newegg Link $190
ASUS Crosshair V Formula Newegg Link $230

Money isnt a huge issue for me, but a difference of 40 dollars is enough to make me consider whether the Crosshair V is "worth" the extra money. Im hoping someone can elaborate on the difference between these two boards in terms of OC'ing potential, and also Digi+ VRM on sabertooth vs Extreme Engine Digi+ VRM on crosshairV.

Im open to other suggestions as well, thanks for any advice in advance!

That is definitely what is holding you back, that's for sure. What clocks are you running now ?

My best "stable" settings are:

CPU mult 19x @ 3.8ghz
NB mult 13x @ 2600mhz
vcore@ 1.35v
cpuNB@ 1.30v
Mem@ 800/1600 9-9-9-24-33-2T @ 1.5v (stock settings)

I have spent countless hours messing with these settings, including FSB changes, but anything higher ends up unstable in stress tests. Load temps are always in safe range around 50c or less.

If money isn't the issue, the CHV is the obvious choice.

The CHV is designed for overclocking. It was the board of choice for AMD and Macci+crew when they set the WR. If something else overclocked better, you can bet they would have used that instead.
