Corsair 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 kit good?

So I found and purchased this RAM for my GF's new computer build. I'll never ever utilize 16GB, but I figured for the price ($99) at the time, it was a no-brainer. Am I wrong? I don't know much about DDR3, and newegg reviews show it to be pretty favorable. Thoughts?

Off-topic, I'm dumbfounded at how cheap RAM is these days. Also, I'm likely to split it into 8GB for her computer, and 8GB for my next build, as I cannot envision ever needing even 8GB...

EDIT--If it matters, I imagine this RAM will never be overclocked, and will likely only ever be run at stock.

It's fine. I don't buy high profile memory because it collides with large air coolers, so I would've personally got something low profile. Also it's probably better to buy two individual kits of 4gb x 2 just in case you would have to RMA. 1600mhz CAS 9 @ 1.5v RAM is everywhere, and that price you paid is okay but actually quite average (and I know you live in CA and Newegg charges tax, just giving an example). I have the same ICs on a kit, I did 1600mhz 8-8-8-24 @ 1.58v and never bothered to test lower voltage for stability but not too shabby.

Thanks so much for the response and info!

Yeah, after I looked around a bit, the price and performance appear to be pretty average.

And that's a very good point about the RMA issue--let's hope I won't have to use it...?

I'm hoping the high-profile heatsinks won't be a problem. I'm going to be sticking with the stock HSF on the CPU (at least for the time-being), since the rig probably won't get OC'd (needs cores and RAM for VM use and a bit of photoshop work--doesn't really need a lot of clock speed), so hopefully I won't run into HSF-RAM-sink issues...

I ordered from Amazon--perhaps I'll cancel and take your suggestion on the two 8GB kits. Or even a single 8GB kit...

Thanks!

How does the Vengeance overclock? I'm kinda between the Vengeance and Gskill RipoffX.
I've heard that Gskill kits with tight timings don't oc well. The Corsair 1600 Mhz CL9 8GB kit is about 55 € and Gskill 1600 Mhz 2 x 2GB 6-8-6-24 1.5V Ripjaws X is about 50 € in my country.

I'm not sure--haven't built the system yet. But I also don't plan to OC...

I don't know why the timings would affect the overclockability--all you'd need to do is loosen the timings to hit higher clocks if you wanted to.
