if it is similar to a gts 250 then i guess so. A gts 250 is identical in performance to a gts 450, and my old 450 could max out (with max aa and ultrahigh mod) dirt 2 at 1440x900. if that helps.

But what would be the power need for the card? I mean just for the card running on a sepret PSU

240 is a mild bit weaker than a 250 if memory serves. As in there is a noticeable difference.
I believe the 250 has a 256 bit memory bus while the 240 has a 128 bit. The 240 is also clocked lower and has fewer cores.
You should be able to play things fairly well at that res on the 250, I had a 240 that did an alright job. Dont expect newer games to run well though.

Nvidia recomends 450 watts minimum PSU. My GTS 250 played most games on medium/high settings at 1650x1080.

I'm sure it would, by why? If I can ask. lol You'd need a molex to 6 pin adapter, too. A PSU that size isn't going to come with PCI-e power.

The GTS240 has 112 cores @ 675mhz while the GTS250 has 128 cores @ 738mhz.

They are both based on the G92b core. The GTS250 has the performance of the 9800GTX+ so we can assume the GTS240 roughly has the performance of a 9800GT.
